Rhody Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Hey folks, searched through some topics here and wasn't able to find exactly what i was looking for, so i thought i would create a thread. Just recently moved to southwest orlando and would like to get back into bass fishing. It has been a long time since i have been able to work pain free, let alone fish, but thanks to a fantastic hand surgeon in RI, im finally able to do the things i enjoy doing again. I dont currently have a fishing buddy, or a boat so im hoping some guys that are local can direct me to some bodies of water that are easily accessible from shore. I have limited knowledge of the area which i am working on, also been trying to locate bodies of water in close proximity to me, but there are so many of them that it is overwhelming. i am sure this has been addressed before, but i appreciate anyone and everyone who takes their time to reply to this and help me get started here in florida, thanks alot guys and girls! Super User BassinLou Posted September 18, 2013 Super User Posted September 18, 2013 Hi Rhody. Being in Orlando puts you in an area of the state known for good bass fishing. I myself am from S.Florida, however the advice I can give you that has helped me a lot is Google Earth. Use the ruler feature and make 5 mile radius for yourself of areas that might suit your situation. It will surprise you what you will find. I myself go on scouting trips and get familiar with an area before I get a line wet. You may get lucky and find someone here that might steer in you to some spots, but sometimes I find, that I have to take the initiative to find my own places. But, that's just me. Good Luck. See you around. Quote
The Commodore Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Unfortunately it is more difficult in Orlando than most areas of the country. 1. The natural lakes here are basically on a swamp. No real shoreline. 2. Everybody lives on a lake here in Orlando and a lot of lakes are completely private. The ponds scattered around housing developments are best for bank fishing. I found getting a kayak has helped me get some fish. Quote
Rhody Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 thanks for the replies guys. i appreciate it. its probably just me but i have been having trouble getting windows 8 to play well with google earth, ill look into that further. im going to continue to ask around at work and everywhere else. if anyone else has any info for me id greatly appreciate it. money is tight currently after a relocation, amongst other things, but eventually i would like to get at the very least some sort of job boat. redux Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Hey, I live in Winter Park and have a few public-access lakes/ponds I can get on whenever I want. What neighborhood in SW ORL are you in? I'm NE. Lake Underhill, Ivanhoe, and Baldwin are all easy to get on and are fishable from shore. Turkey Lake has boats you can rent. Look into the Fab Five Lakes and Orange County Parks and Rec. They promote fishing pretty well. Quote

Ive been meaning to check out Underhill, thought about taking a ride of there this morning but that didnt work out. Im still getting my bearings since its been a long time since ive been able to fish pain free, and i also need to get adjusted to seasonal patterns here in FLA, just a tad bit different than new england. redux Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I'm actually just getting into baitcasters myself. I have been fly fishing for awhile and finally got tired of fighting the brush on my back casts. It is so much more enjoyable/productive fishing for bass and gar this way. Anyway, there are a lot of lakes you can get to from the shore just use Google maps and you can get a good idea of what the shores and access looks like. These are all North of you, but still pretty close. Lake Highland, Ivanhoe, Formosa, Estelle, Rowena, Mendsen (this one is at a park)... 1 Quote

JellyMan Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I know of some spots that are just ridiculous but I can't tell you about them unless I am there. Private waters. All the lakes are great if you have a boat. If no boat, then just google earth the area, look for apartment complex and subdivision ponds and lakes. I used to live in Aqua At Millennia, not far from you, and there is a pond there loaded with bass along with a small creek thing around the back of the complex that holds lots of fish. I used to walk that entire pond almost every night. Here was my biggest out of there. Stunted but still a good fish. Speed worms are the best out there! Many dinks but big fish are in there. Appartment complex ponds and neighborhood ponds are the way to go if you don't have a boat. Every place I lived at in Orlando, I made sure I had water available to me wether it be a lake or a local pond. Quote
redux Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I hit the docks at Lake Baldwin Sunday morning and got a nice 18"er on my first toss. And then nothing for the next 3 hours on the Susanna/Baldwin channel. Feel free to invite me along to one of those honey holes! Quote
