Bassin-Yakin Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 we are not going until later in the day so we will be mostly searching for this action again.... I will have every rod with me ready so I can try different things... I plan on having a rod with Sammy, Fluke, Spinnerbait, Rattle trap, swimbait, and maybe a crank or something else as well.... if they dont want any of that it wasnt meant to be!!! Quote
kLuo Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 these are some of the most exciting times to fish because the bass are so aggressive. I've had great success with the heddon spit'n image, red eye shad, and jerkbaits. Quote
KC Bass Fanatic Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 An old timer on Truman lake told me this a long time ago and it really works. Toss a big chrome spoon right in the middle of the action and let it sink. A lot of the larger bass don't expend the energy to bust the shad so they will just hang out below the action and wait for injured shad to sink. A super fluke on a keel weighted hook works well in this application too. Quote
piscicidal Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 The fluke is awesome also if the bust happens very close to your boat. I had this happen to me at Okeechobee two weeks ago. I was fishing a cut and my boat was nosed into some slop. A group of shad started getting busted about ten feet from the back of the boat. I pitched a weightless fluke in there and caught fish on five straight casts (three 3 lbers). To me the answer to this question (what to throw?) really depends on your proximity to the bust. The aruko shad (or similiar lipless) is great for launching baits to them from long distance. Medium distance (15-30 yards) I like the lake fork magic shad...that bait best mimics the size/action of a shad, IMO. Up close, the fluke is hard to beat...the vertical action keeps the bait in the middle of the commotion and looks just like a dying shad. Quote
NateFollmer Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Fluke, crank, spinnerbait, soft swimbait... All of these still work. Try and see what shade the shad are (if you can) and throw something close. Dead sticking a fluke or swimbait usually works well. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted August 20, 2010 Super User Posted August 20, 2010 I love the heddon spitn' image in that situation, or any shad colored walker. The swimn' image is good too. Quote
