bigtimfish Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I understand I can c rig, flip, and tx rig with them or whatever other way I choose to fish them. But my question is, Which method did Big O have in his head for these baits when he designed them? What method does each of these baits really shine at? To me rooster looks like it should be fished on a swarming hornet underspin, and the eeliminator just swam on a ewg or swimbait hook. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 19, 2010 Super User Posted August 19, 2010 C rig and weightless topwater for the Eeliminator, and keel weighted hook for the Rooster. Using a swimbait hook for the Eel kills the side to side action. Quote

Blues19 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Everyone says to keel weight the smokin rooster and space monkey. I am not quite sure what that would look like, can someone post a picture of how to rig it like that and explain how to work it. please Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 20, 2010 Super User Posted August 20, 2010 I've found this the best way to use the Rooster. Just swim it like a swim jig, or slow roll it along the bottom, or over the top of grass. Has a very sexy fall with this type of weighted hook. Quote
Big-O Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Here's a group of photo's that illustrate placing a weighted hook in a Space Monkey without boring the weight thru the head of the bait. You can use the point to penetrate the nose to chin area prior to inserting the eye of the hook back thru from beneath. With this style of hook, always place hook in bait prior to tying on line. I used this style of hook for many years, but now I am partial to screw lock hooks like the Moaner Hooks brand shown above in Shane's post with the Smokin Rooster. This is much easier rigging, holds head up much better and the hook gap is much larger providing better hook up %'s. Hope that helps Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
matstone7 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 The Eeliminator on a Carolina rig is amazing! I never had much luck with a C/rig prior to following Big O's suggestions, now it's the first thing I grab. As for the Smokin' Rooster, keel weight that baby and slow roll or drag it bouncing the bottom, swim it along weedlines or through structure has worked really well for me. Quote
