Been getting the gf out this summer and she's really been getting into fishing and she's caught a good amount of pickerel, crappie and others, however the bass have eluded her completely until yesterday.

Didn't have a scale but it was a pretty big'un.  Couldn't believe she got that thing in on 4lb test and an ultralight in heavy weed cover.  I didn't pick it up as it was her fish and I wanted it back in the water asap so I have no hand gauge to go by either.  Anyways, if I could get the collective's ballpark opinion on how heavy they think this fish is I'd appreciate it.  Thanks & happy fishing!

Probably close to 4.  Looks fat.  Had to be a wild ride on 4# line in cover.  Congrats to her!

Too cool! I can't really determine a weight, but I'll go with John's estimate, around 4 lbs.

Right around the 4ish mark. Give or take. Really hard to tell fish weights without proper measurements. Great fish either way so congrats to you both!

With a sn name like that, I am surprised you have a girlfriend.  :laugh5:   j/k

Haha yeah she was hootin' and hollerin' with her drag singing quite the song and I looked over to see her boat getting pulled towards the weeds at a pretty good pace.  "Oh no, not the weeds" I thought, immediately thinking of the setup I gave her's obvious shortcomings- but she kept the line tight like I told her and scooped it asap with the net.  Proud of her for sure!  It was very fat, wish I had her spin it for a 2nd shot for better profile.

I think she's hooked for life now too so that's the real win.   :eyebrows:  She finally got the rush!

As for my name, I couldn't resist...  It was just too funny not to!   :xmasicon_mrgreen:

And by the way, as an engagement gift why don't you get her a real bass rig?????

Like at 7-foot, medium heavy spinning rig (G. Loomis would be nice) and a Shimano C-14 2500 spinning reel spooled with 100% 8-pound fluorocarbon line.

Just a suggestion. :Romance:

Yep! Looks like she might be bit after her bass! Strikes like a thunderbolt! And take her to DSG or Cb and introduce her to the bait monkey!  :eyebrows:

This guy is GOOD.   :Victory:

But actually I am handing down my current rod to her once my new setup gets here sometime next week.  If she sticks with it I'll pick her up something nice for sure...

i second this  but I would say closer to 3.  I made one of these threads once and got numbers from 7lbs all the way down to 3lbs, so truth is no one can really tell. Ive found with women, its best to listen to what they say. Just ask her how much she thought it weighed and go with that.

And if things don't work out between you 2 then you better take it back lol.

Nice fish I would say a little under 4lbs.

Nice going!  I took my fiance out a couple months back and she had a pretty good time.  She's by no means an outdoors girl, but after catching her a couple bluegill and a decent 2 pound bass she could at least reason with why i always want to go!  Good thing you've got one that wants to go and or lets you go!!

Congrats to her. Bass looks like a 3-1/2 to 4 pounder.

Everyone seems pretty in the ballpark, but around my area that would be reported as 10lbs by some

Who cares how much it weighed.  Her smile says it all.  Congrats on a nice catch.
