anyone on here fish a strike king structure jig or the heavy hook version of the tour grade football jig?

i been catching them pretty good all year on the tour grade jig but i lost atleast 5 big ass bass due to a flexed hook. i hate losing fish like most of us. im throwing them on a 7' medhvy carbon lite with 20lb test seaguar red label. too much of a hookset for the hook or the bass is too strong???

I have a few of the football tour grades left over and the hooks are what I think are lite wire. I can bend them out with 14 pound fluoro on my bench. This was pulling as hard as I could though, not a real world fishing situation.

20# is pretty heavy stuff and can flatten a hook out. I've never done it with fluoro myself though while fishing, only with braid.

I switched up to NS jigs for several reasons including the hooks. However the hair jigs have a hook very similar to the lite wire hook on the SK's. With braid I do a very light hook set as the hook will dig in eaiser.

It could be a combo of both or one. I'd suggest a smaller diameter line with the hooks.

I use the SK flippin bugs all the time.  I have never had a fish straighten one, but I have straightened the hooks pulling free of structure.

I throw SK tour grade jigs and haven't had this issue.  I use 10#, but I think this is light and I lose fish at the hookset sometimes.  I really like my 10# though so I'm going to stick with it... I would recommend 12#, possibly 15#.  See if that makes a difference.  If you're still bending hooks, then you could try switching to mono if you're using fluro.  This will give you more stretch but I wouldn't go below 15#.

Are you sure it is hook flex that is causing the lost fish? I want to know because that normally only happens to flipping jigs, football heads normally use standard wire hooks because they are usually fished deep or on tackle such as what you were using, the standard wire hook makes for easier hook sets with lighter line which is why they use that type of hook.

I have not had any problem with the Tour Grade jigs in limited use, but I do not use braid. One word of caution: Once you have bent and straightened a hook, even a little, it will be weaker and more inclined to bend. Put a lot of pressure on a weakened hook, and you will lose fish.

Yep.  And it will eventually break.
