Water temp isn't as big as a factor as most people make it out to be.  I've caught bass on buzzbaits on New Year's Day, when the water temps were in the low 40's.

Once your top waters stop breaking through the ice is only when I stop throwing them.

Then I may have to switch to Stanley's. Missed a big one this past Friday on a KVD. She knocked it hard, disappeared, and when I set the hook she was gone.

I hate when that happens.

Over in the Southeast section we've been running a Florida Bragging Rights thread for the past 4 or 5 months. We do top 5 fish for the month an we go by length, since not everybody has scale, and we do a big fish for those who do carry one. It's pretty fun and we have a good turn out and conversation. Over the past 4 months nearly every fish I posted a pic of came off these golden frogs.

The first thing you do wrong when fishing is to make "rules" for something that has no rules.

You´ll never know if you don´t try.

If you try and doesn´t work it doesn´t mean that it´s wrong, it only means that it didn´t work when you tried and that´s not good enough for making a "rule" out of it and there´s a bunch of reasons why it didn´t work .

You got nothing to loose if you try, casts are free.

Colder temps here today too. I tried topwater and nothing hit it. My white spinner bait caught one bass and a large pickerel. Then I put on a panther Martin spin fly in silver with an orange tail and caught another bass. With the spinner bait I felt a thump first as it fell into the water while it was sinking after the cast. So I went really slow in reeling it. It didn't take long to wait for the second strike. The bass I could tire out but the pickerel was very fisty and fought more in my hand too. It's the second day after the heavy rains. I guess the place is finally getting back to normal. Throwing a topwater lure is always first on my list of lures to try. Bill

I just go threw my ritual of lures till something works then I nailed

down the pattern for a while.

Yes I am an orginal user and like you have told many people about it... I think im the only one who buys them from places who sell tackle ... I pick a few bags up every time I go to the store can never have a enough!

ohk question for you what do you like better I always fished the frogs with a 4/0 wide gap just personal preference ..my frogs don't last very long only a few fish which I don't mind at all.  but I'd figure I id try to see if I could save some bait with a screw lock hook.. didn't like it all... hbu normally or screw lock?

I use the screw hooks the frog holds up better with the screw IMO. Which kind of frogs do you use?

At ice out, I run a buzzbait off the ice pack, and bass love to attack it when it comes off the ice, right at the edge of the water...No, its never to cold.
