crankbait2009 Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 OK, I have had the 12" jelly worm for a while and have tried it a time or two at most. It's just really large and can't imagine the couple pound bass in my area would even chase it. I was at BPS the other day and asked one of the emplyees if they ever used it with any success. He gave me the same reply. used it once maybe twice with no luck so that leads me to this........has anyone used this worm? any luck? If you have had success, how have you rigged it? Good ol' t-rig? MO_LMB Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I love big worms. I don't think i would even use a worm less than 10" unless I was using like a drop shot or some other finesse technique. One of my best produding presentations of the summer has been the 11" Mega Miki (not the jelly worm but still a big a$$ worm). Just T-Rig it along the edges of weedlines, or drag it across some mats and that seemed to work for me. Granted you probably won't catch a lot of numbers, but I was very happy with the quality of the fish. Quote
Loop_Dad Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I have never used 12", but I remember that years ago some folks rigged big worm with some of the line threaded right in the center of the worm for first few inches before rigged the hook t-rig style... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 15, 2013 Global Moderator Posted September 15, 2013 Yep, it's a good bait for low light conditions and night fishing. I've caught 10 inchers on them so don't be afraid to fish them. 2 pounders have no problem eating them. Quote
John G Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 If you don't believe in the 12" Jelly Worm, you should watch this....... 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 15, 2013 Super User Posted September 15, 2013 Yep. Have to be fished slow either weightless or Texas rigged, on top of the water, pads and through grass or on the bottom. Can drive you nuts if you are like me, ADD. I like moving baits and fishing fast so when I have thrown this bait I do not do well. Never had a strike with it. Probably 100% my fault. But you give it a shot and let us know if you have better success. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 15, 2013 Super User Posted September 15, 2013 Great video...Paul Elias' record still stands! Quote
ROCbass Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I just bought a pack of these couple days ago and used one for the first time yesterday. I had it texas rigged and was fishing it in some pads in the pond in my apartment complex when my wife called. I got a hit while I was on the phone and I missed the hookset. I had only been fishing it for a few minutes when that happened, and the only other thing I've caught fish on in that pond so far is senkos, so that was enough to convince me that they could work in the right situation. crankbait2009 Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 So can this worm work just as well if there is no surface cover like pads? Im in complete open water....... Quote
Nick49 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Fished deep around points, 10 and 12 inch plastic worms are very effective. Quote
xxjace Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I got two packs of the manns jelly worms this summer grape and black in 12 inch and I caught a few decent fish on them..some people have told me they caught monsters on them over the years idk I only texas rigged them with a 3/8 tungston and didnt commit to them to much.. just here and there..three pounds was prob my biggest.. JayKumar Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Don't know about Mann's, but 10" and 12" black Power Worms are my favorite baits just about anywhere, including small ponds. Don't believe there's a 3, 4 or 5 in a small pond? Throw that -- and it'll still catch 1-2 pounders. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 16, 2013 Super User Posted September 16, 2013 I like the bigger worms this time of year. It seems around here that the bass will start going after bigger baits before they will hit a finesse bait. Quote
Doc-Drew Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 I have not used the Mann's 12" before but here is an example of the size of fish big worms can catch. This was on a 10" rage tail anaconda. Quote
