Me and my SS Class have decided to take a camp trip and also have a bass fishing tournament. It will probably be me and a 15 guys.

Boats are not allowed and the biggest fish caught wins the challenge. Now compared to these guys I've bass fished actual tournaments, but I have never seen none of these guys fish.

I only use a baitcasters and carry only 1 spinning reel. They all use spinning, and they hate baitcasters. I still have respect for them; because I haven't seen them fish. But here's what Ima gonna do.

I wanting to go buy a new rod, some plastics, lures, etc. By the time this is going to take place I should have $650 saved up. And my going to spend my paycheck on fishing?? Absolutely, not. I've gotta buy a new pair of costas so that $250 gone. Were down to $400. Oh and forgot to mention the tournament is OCTOBER 19, 2013.

As a bass fisherman I don't know everything, but I do know that the transition period has taken place or is about to. I do know that shad is the key to find bass. But guys the question I should be asking you: What should I buy???

I'm thinking about buying some spinners (but I don't know what size), lipless cranks, cranks, jigs, plastics, unrigged minnows (money, havoc sick fish), and etc.

But you guys tell me what I should be buying for this trip. I kinda don't wanna lose against these guys, but if it happens it happens. Im never gonna here the end of it, but its ok.

Thanks for reading and your help,

How big is the area? Are you able to hike around or are you stuck to a certain area.

If you want big fish, then fish for big fish. Go scope out the water. Where are they hiding? Where is it deep (in case it's hot out)?

The best advice I can give you is do homework if you are bank fishing.

Then buy big baits. :)

Its hard to tell you what to buy just by being asked "what do I buy?" If you're chasing shad, spinnerbaits and cranks would be my go to just to catch a bunch.

Since the winner of the tournament is biggest fish, I would definitely get a decent fish off of a spinnerbait then switch to swimbaits to try an get a big un.

What lake is it just out of curiosity?

50 acres...so No Sir it's not that big of an area and I can walk around...I've scoped the water using google maps and I went up there before everybody had a chance to go...which they wont be able to until the 19th of October.  At most from what I'm understanding the deepest part is 15' and it has rained in Ga for a couple of days.

One fish tourney, sounds awesome man!  I'd get a light jig with a heavy hook, pair it with a beaver or craw trailer and look for bigger bites!  Work it slow and if you feel anything, swing!

Hello Jay,

As for your $250 Costas, go on eBay and you can bid on Costa Del Mar auctions and Buy them for 1/2 the price...

In 2012 I bought a brand new pair of Costa Del Mar  HR-10 Harpoons (glass lens) for $75.00 plus shipping:  don`t pay the $250 price tag !!

Hope this helps

Save your money any decent strike king polarized glasses will work. You just need plastics, cranks etc. I only fish the smaller places.

Thats pretty cool that your SS class has arranged this.  I would keep the fishing friendly and make sure you have your bases covered.  If you're starting from nothing,

I would pick up some items:

spinnerbaits (probably 1/4oz) in white, chartreuse, black.

zoom flukes

senkos

beaver/craw type baits (watermelon, green pumpkin and black)

Jigs from Seibert outdoors (ask him for his top sellers)

squarebills.

I would think about the lake and how deep/clear/weedy/cold/hot the water is and what kind of structure is there (sandy/mud/rock bottom).  Those kind of things will dictate what kind of baits to throw.

Reading up on how to fish all of those techniques, would be very helpful.  Fishermen tend to get caught up on all the different lures, and you can't force feed the fish.

Good luck!

I know that the guys in my class love to fish. And knew of camping site we could easily get too. So I asked my leaders and then they asked the guys.

Got a BIG yes from the both of them. We are gonna teach some survival skills and just have a great time.

 Thanks for the help

In another post "Blue,Brown, Green...what Color???" you stated "I work at academy sports and outdoors and they give you this training site...I trained on costas and got 60 % OFF", and you still have to pay $250 for the glasses? Also, why would you use your buddies discount instead of your own?

If I could show you the site...the costas I want would be brought down to 100 bucks...but here are the rules...Idk if you can see them but you can only order two pair every two years so 1 pair a year..I lost my fist pair back in 2012 when I went to florida and the second pair are to small so I sold them (i bought those this year).

Once you make a sale all sales are final no returns no nothing...(its also in the rules). So thats why Im going to use my buddies.

Speedbead on here is selling some green mirror costas for 175 I believe.

Still can't believe no one took me up on that. At the very least I'm not some anonymous Ebay personality....

Shoot me a message with what frames and lense color you are looking for.

From your previous statements though, I don't believe I can match the price you are getting through your buddy. That's a good deal.
