Got to go do some fishing this weekend with Skeeter Don, graphed lots of fish on main lake stuff just couldn't get them to bite. Sunday was spent fishing the attoyac branch of Sam rayburn, I had a little more luck of moving shallower and flipping vegetation

It was great to Fish big Sam again this weekend.Ā  Hooked up with Shane and his brother andĀ we took her on and she was stingy and did not put out.Ā  Sunday was a little better for sure.Ā  If they can keep that lake constant, then I know what to do for sure, shallow flipping bite, probably my favorite way to fish.

Soon as hunting season is over I need to get up there. Gotta try to find the boys some fish for the high school tournament. I do not normally fish this time of year, so its gonna be a challenge.

Hello everyone, I'm a newbie on this forum.

Have read several post an enjoyed what I read, especially w/o all the negative response you seem to have on other forums, just something about Big Sam, most locals don't care to share Anything.

To each there own.

I enjoy reading others advice they are willing to share, an don't mind sharing what little I know.

My boat stays at my camp, so Big Sam is usually the only lake I fish, at times I venture over to the Bend.

IMO they are both Excellent lakes, structure, grass, woods, creeks ect.

I ramp at Harvey Creek, an 90% of the time fish that area.

Black Forest, Indian Creek, Hog Branch, Harvey, 147 Flats.

My biggest hang up, and something I really am going to work on this next year, is getting away from the shallow water. Trying to save up for a decent graph, and start fishing deeper water.

My Dad always seemed to fish shallow water, an caught some nice fish in the hydrilla an backs of creeks,

But I sure have read where y'all seem to be doing good out deeper at certain times of the year.

Hope I can gain some info from y'all thru out the following weeks months years ect.

Just fished Indian Creek, but headed back towards the back instead of working my way towards the lake side.

Truth be told, got skunked!! Not ashamed to say it, that lake can be great one day, and brutal the next.

And as y'all all know, the wind can be a "small" factor! Lol

If I can be of any help, please ask away

I'm sure hoping a newer graph an advice on here will help me catch a few more.

Happy Holidays Everybody

Sorry so long, just trying to introduce myself to a fantastic forum!

Roblo I just started fishing big Sam and it seems to me every thing I read the fish are caught shallow.. I've been in buck Bay Area. Fished deep didn't do no good went shallow and caught some in grass/pad mixture.

Posted

Fishcaller, what was you using in the grass/pads to catch yours on?

I really got hooked on "frog" fishing several years ago, an will throw a ribbit frog year round, more productive with water temp a little warmer though

Rayburn definitely fishes shallower than Toledo, but don't think all fish are shallow. Majority of tournament, emits are own out deep still from what I gather. Get a good SI graph and start graphing looking for piles and channel swings.

If your just fishing for numbers and decent keepers ( you will get a good one from time to time) Ā  yes Rayburn can be fished shallowĀ  year round (Hydrilla Bite), butĀ  since theĀ  drought a few years agoĀ  a lot of the quality fish are caught on brush in 15 to 25 foot of waterĀ  except for a short time in the late winterĀ  springĀ  whenĀ  they all come shallow for the prespawn and spawn.Ā  Now having said thatĀ  this year may be different because we have the most HydrillaĀ  I have seen in several years. Will this change rayburn back to a predominantly grass pattern lake?Ā  I don't knowĀ  myselfĀ  some of the other guys on here would probably be able to answer that better than me.Ā Ā  But likeĀ Ā Bass_FanaticĀ  saidĀ  a good graphĀ  on the pointsĀ  will help you locate the brush piles but be carefulĀ  some of the folks who put them out get a little upsetĀ  with guys raiding them.

That's what I need to do is ride around and just look lake over with graph . People shouldn't get mad they know it's gonna be found.i put some on the bend in spot nobody ever fished now can't go by without seeing someone there it's gonna happen

sorry for waiting so long on posting, I am guilty of reading the e-mails about yalls posts and not checking the forum....a couple of key observations I am proud of: we have no b@$$holes here like on texas fishing forum. We all help one another out, IT'S WHAT THIS THREAD WAS CREATED FOR! none of us are aspiring pros except maybe FANATIC ;-)

Another thing to be mentioned about the lake itself someone mentioned, after the drought the fish that lived on some of the key areas of the lake left those areas. They now reside around brush piles and structure rather than cover adjacent to these same areas. I used to catch 30+# stringers around deer stand and after the dought............nothing.........but I've found some of the fishes hiding spots

I confess, I have been doing the same thing as Shane,Ā  reading the emails and then not getting on here and posting.Ā  Rayburn can be picky and finicky for sure.Ā  A good si will help you find those brush piles.Ā  Just start scanning and have you a buoy marker ready, pop a way point, turn around, idle back by,drop a buoy and then use a 1 oz jig to confirm your finds.Ā  When I am search, I am not looking for bites, just piles that's all, asĀ  you do this, you will get more experienced with what a pile looks like and then will not need to test it.

Ā

What's up Shane, give me shout and lets catch up.
