shaneus Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 i had someone pm me asking for some identifying way points for common terminology used in bass fishing ans what things looked like.......please correct me if i'm wrong but this is my opinion. it took me a long time to learn the terms and identify correctly so i thought it would be a good learning experience for everyone here on the forum i've included links to navionics...  ditches are "drains" to bigger water. when the lake was low you could see ditches when it rained where the water funneled and ran to the body of water these are usually around flats, rivers are main waters before impoundment, flats are well flat ha ha ha. creeks have a beginning and a end when people say creek channels bends its bigger than a ditch but not the river, but usually runs to the main river and intersects it and is a major highway for bass..... and a point is well a point, a ridge is a ridge......  river: http://webapp.navion...,-94.313079,11z  mouth of ditch: http://webapp.navion...,-94.304904,11z http://webapp.navion...,-94.301760,11z http://webapp.navion...,-94.298167,11z  mouth of creek/intersection: http://webapp.navion...,-94.294645,15z  end of creek: http://webapp.navion...-94.300879,14z\  flats: http://webapp.navion...,-94.295545,13z http://webapp.navion...,-94.301048,13z http://webapp.navion...,-94.308645,13z  points: http://webapp.navion...,-94.290948,12z http://webapp.navion...,-94.341025,11z  ridge: http://webapp.navion...,-94.283613,12z http://webapp.navion...,-94.214332,11z http://webapp.navion...,-94.208762,12z Quote
shaneus Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 when you click on the links, do not click anywhere on the map EXCEPT the zoom buttons and it will take you to the correct position......if you click in the map first it will screw it up..... Quote

Hookn1 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I have not posted much on this site, but with everything that I have learned and picked up from here and there, I figured I would share my first Rayburn experience from this past week. Of course the weather wasn't optimal, but the fishing was good. I fished shallow below 12 and fished deep, 20 to 35 feet. I found fish in both, but it seemed the deeper fish where more willing to bite. I landed fish on Chatterbaits, drop shot, crank baits and Jigs, with the 6th Sense Crank Baits and 3/4 and 1 oz jig and pigs in watermelon and crawfish colors being the most productive. Water ranged from 49 to 51 degrees. I found most fish on structure toward the end of points, creek turns, and inside drains. I fished the Veach and 5 fingers area. I was also fishing in a kayak and was very appreciative of the sportsmanship of all the boaters around, I found everyone to be courteous and respectable in regards to proximity boundaries. Being from La, the boaters have accepted the kayak community over time for the most part, and in Tx it appeared to be the same respect. Thank you all for the information shared on this site, it has been priceless for me over the last few months. im having a little trouble getting the files small enough to upload, but here are a few. I didn't weigh any fish, caught measured, took pics and released them. They ranged from 16 inches to just over 24 inches, with a couple 22ers in the mix. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Awesome report and awesome fish Hookn1! I found a lot of fish in 35ft of water scouting Friday, but didn't fish em. Hopefully it was all bass! Quote
Hookn1 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Unfortunately I found them two days in a row pre fishing for a tournament Saturday, I also found them Friday in new areas and left them for tourney day. When Saturday rolled around, all the deep fish I found were small. I did end up hooking on drag ripper, but ended up getting wrapped around something during the fight and broke off 50 lbs braid after about 10 seconds of back and forth with her. She was a brute based on the depth finder reading, and a heartbreaker for sure. Most fish caught in the tournament were caught on brush hogs and chatterbaits in around 8 feet of water along grass lines. I stayed deep all day and ended with 8 fish landed, but only finished 12 out of 50. Being my first trip to the area, and given my pre fishing results, I had a blast and made memories that will last a long time. Thanks again for the info. AND, if anyone knows anything about Kentucky Lake, I will be there in two weeks for my next event. Never been to it either. Bass_Fanatic Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Hookn1, I sent you a PM. And I wish I could help out on Kentucky lake, but I've never been there either. Everything I hear though this time of year is to throw a hogfarmers arig in deep water close to spawning flats! Quote

Tonto Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hello all  new to the forum. Got a house up at Rayburn. We try to get up there as much as possible, but that usually only means 2 weekends a month at most. This past weekend was brutal for us. Water was so muddy and filled with debris from all the rain earlier in the week and the lake rising. The wind on Saturday afternoon also didn't help that.Fished up near Needmore Point and in that general area in some areas that usually do well. Lots of boats on the water, but seemed to be pretty little action based on what we saw and heard from others.  Just wanted to say I really appreciate this thread and reading it. Even though I've fished throughout my life, I have never fished enough to dedicate a good portion of time to truly learning the craft. As I start to do that more, these threads and this site is a fantastic place to share ideas and talk fishing, especially at Rayburn. Quote
back water Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Welcome aboard Tonto:: These two forums are very active and informative. T. Bend more than Sam Rayburn. It seems there are more of the locals that fish T. Bend. I am from the Conroe area so don't get up there to fish that much but always give a report when I do. Catt, Shaneus and quite a few others keep us pretty well informed on the Bend, And Shaneus has a whole bunch of experience on Sam. Keep tuned in and you are sure to learn allot. Keep a tight line!!!  Backwater Quote
wrp75951 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Rayburn has been good to me. Caught one between 8 and 99lbs on a trap Saturday.Went back and fished Sunday evening.Saw fish making commotion in the bushes. Ended up catching 20 or 30 on a wekweightless senko. Hitting it again tomorrow evening after work. Quote
