JWOA Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Anybody use this rod?? And what lures did you use this rod for?? It looks great for the quality and I was thinking about taking it on a CHURCH tournament...the pond were fishing is only 24 acres and its probably going to me and 15 other competitors. I was thinking about getting this rod because it looks like it hold up and I dont want my Vendettas getting messed up nor my All Star rod. Im going to purchase the casting for my bait caster that I have. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 12, 2013 Super User Posted September 12, 2013 Why will your primary's rods get messed up? Quote
Mxtaylor Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I've used this rod and it is nice for the money, but it's not nearly as sensitive as my Vendetta. I'd stick with your current setups and put the money to new lures instead, IMO. Quote
S_Miketa6 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 A few of my friends have this rod and they seem to like them especially for the price!!! Quote
Cgrinder Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Good grief. Where are you fishing that you're worried about messing up a $70 rod? 7' mh is a good frog rod. Quote
skeletor6 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I am somewhat confused as to how taking a fishing rod to a fishing tournament, to go fishing would mess up the rod. Maybe something else is involved that I am unaware of. Perhaps, if you lose you have to forfeit your rod/reel setup to the winner? Anyways, I own the 7 foot MH Berkley Lightning Shock rod. For $40 you can't really go wrong. At this length and action its fairly versatile and served me well until I decided to invest more in my equipment. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 12, 2013 Super User Posted September 12, 2013 Seems to me the Bait Monkey is calling your name. No need to make excuses for it. I have a 6' MH that I've been using with 1/2 oz. spinnerbaits. Rod vibrates from the beginning of the retrieve, unlike my more expensive rods. Personally I feel it has more to do with the rod length than sensitivity. If I were going to beat up on a rod, the Lightning would get called upon first because it is the cheapest rod I have...$17. We also going camping and will be fishing from the bank....the bank has very thick cover (thts were the bass are). I don't want to get it messed up...because Im not driving. Im giving the rods to someone else...Bc it will save on gas for me(dont have to take a boat). Im not wanting to have to worry about a rod on the way up there. Quote
pbizzle Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 How does your church do tournaments? We do ours just like a regular tournament. It's actually pretty challenging since there's a lot of tournament fishermen and one flw guy. We only fish from sunrise until 12 or 1 though. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 14, 2013 Super User Posted September 14, 2013 Thick cover? Sounds like swim jigs to me. Quote
GaterB Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Good rods for a great price. Hauled big bass out of the grass with a 6'6" MH all summer down in FL. Quote
