My wifes a zoom bait away from filing for divorce!

On the way to the park with my wife and daughter, I hear " Bait shop iz on way der".  I shudder as I turn around only to see my daughter sucking on her passy.  I see him no where.  I thought to myself "Well, I did run out of jig heads, oh and I wanted to get some sunline."  A small "hehehe"  is let out that only I seem to hear.  I tell my wife i'll be out in a second, and make my way in.....

"Hey Josh, I know you've been looking to have a rod made,  but I got these smoke rod on sale real cheap."  I pick up a 7' mh micro guide smoke and a rush of euphoria courses through my body.  I tried to fight it, I really did, but I ask "That Lew's Team pro I held the other day, let me put it on this and get a feel."  As I find the balance point, I feel like the apprentice in Fantasia, playing with the sorcerers wand while he sleeps.  As I loosen up the reel seat, the voice I know all too well says "By  dis, u b gran massa fishman!"   The clerk sees concern in my face as i'm picturing the doghouse in my head, and instead of sending me on my way, he enables me by saying "I'll even do the paperwork for the free boat bag from Lew's."

The "hehehe" rings out again as i'm laying twenties on the counter and walk out the door with my new rig, sunline, a few packs of jig heads, a popper, and a live pointer.  I drop my head in shame as my wife gives me a look of disgust on the way to the truck.  The sting of the slap hurts, but not more than when I recovered from it in time to see the bait monkey run underneath the shop, laying in wait for me to come again.

LOL I know that feeling all too well.. If my marriage makes it through the winter it will be amazing. I usually get the "Why do you need so many rods? I thought you just got one?" a lot. They just don't get it..

Hehe. Order them online, get home before her and unbox them quick. I stick the tubes in the rafters of the garage. I noticed the wife looking at the tubes the other day and I had to distract her a bit.

My weakness is new rods.

So, I entered a Facebook contest from Kistler Rods and won $100 rod discount for a new rod. Of course, I'll have to buy a $400 rod to enjoy the discount. That makes it $300.

I'm trying to figure out which rod I need. (I have about 10 Kistlers already.) I'm leaning toward a 7'6" MH (4 power). I have plenty of heavy and extra heavy now.

My second choice is a 7'3" 3 power. I fish a lot of weightless Senkos and flukes. Bait monkey wins either way.

That was a well written account of events and an interesting read. The problem with buying anything fishing related is being content. There always seems to be something more that is needed and always areas that could be touched up and improved upon. The monkey strikes people in different ways. Sometimes its reels, sometimes its rods, perhaps plastics or god forbid expensive swimbaits. If you get hit with all of them then you better have a good job and relationship.

I would like to know how many on here with a Wife or Girlfriend gets asked the "Why do you need so many rods" question. I am farily certain that the question is pre-programmed into a woman's mind. The problem is its more difficult to smuggle a 7 foot rod and its bulky packaging than it is a size 7 pair of shoes or 30 different colors of nail polish.

I don't get questioned, in fact my wife mentioned to me last month that I was running out of rack space and I need to make another rack for new equipment.  A few days later she said, you ought buy yourself a nice fly rod and reel to use at the beach.

Do you have one foot in the grave, and the other on a banana peel?  I could use a wife like that.  :teeth3:  :teeth:

Stopped at Walmart last night for cat litter.  Naturally we have to swing by the fishing department to see if anything is on sale.  Never is, but I keep looking.  :sad78:   Wife says "Why are you looking at rods?  You have too many already."

In my case I have them shipped to my workplace because the wife is always home before me.  Once in the house it is awful hard to tell if one more has been added unless you count them.  :teeth:

My downfall is reels.  Wouldn't have nearly as many rods as I do if it weren't for all my reels.  Still need a few more rods to even things out.

Josh, I enjoyed the read.  A good laugh is always a good (and healthy) thing.  Obviously your wife is an ok girl, or you wouldn't have walked out of the store with all that loot...regardless of the Bait Monkey.  She must really      you.

Packages are so light wife thinks it couldn't contain anything costly.  Problem with my wife is curiosity.  She thinks she has to know what came in the package.  Mine get delivered to my workplace for that reason.  Her curiosity may kill me instead of the cat.  :cry4:

Thank God my gf is supportive of my outdoor habits.  Fishing isn't even on the list yet though, my skiing gear obsession makes fishing look like pennies on the dollar so I figure I've got a good year or two before she even notices all my fishing stuff amassing behind the ski gear.      :punishment:

That monkey though...  He always gets me.  All I need is a justifiable percentage off on something I was vaguely aware of and I'm hooked.

Sigh. The monkey.

Shimano reel foot doesn't fit in your $100 fenwick? Buy a Cumara. It's sure to fit there.

Had the same problem with my Chronarch 101A.  I solved it by mounting a different reel on the rod.  Plenty of other rods where the 101A will fit.

Problem that I have is my wife pays attention to detail.  She basically has the ability to go, "Hey never seen that rod before or that reel..etc".  I don't even try to hide it anymore, I tell her I'm doing it.

LOL, close but not yet.

I paid my dues and we both sacrificed when needed.  Now being retired the pressure is off and I can have about anything I want, that doesn't mean that I'm out of control over my spending habits.  There is no reason for me to hide anything from my wife, if I couldn't afford it I wouldn't be buying it.

I spit my coffe all over when I read this!!!! Yesterday me and the wife stopped by Walmart for....CAT LITTER!!! When we got I said, "I'm going to see if they put anything in the rapala discount bin yet.", and so off I went and I took a quick look to see what rods were discounted when I hear..."Don't even think you're going to grab another rod, you have more than enough." .  Rods on sale make me weak in  the knees and add to it I have got a tackle making addiction so I'm always having hooks or bucktails or spinner blades being sent and God lover her, she doesn't mind the tackle making stuff as much because she is always buying yarn to make blankets and other stuff so she knows which item to fuss about.  BTW, that Smoke rod is one I consider under the radar, I have a 7' MH-F and I love it, I got it on a recommendation from a guy that use to fish with me in a bass club and since I wanted to see the deal with micro guides anyway I got it and I'm very pleased with it, very light and the balance is incredible with a light reel, I had a Gen 2 Revo Premier on it and then I settles on my Smoke reel and as a combo it is just fantastic, enjoy it.

Guys, the story is true... just with a lil flavoring to make it fun lol!  My wife doesn't nag me about my addiction, she laughs it off.  I am enjoying my new combo, in fact it's my lightest yet.  I'm of a smaller stature (5'7)  and the Lew's reel fits my hand quite nicely.  Being a bank fisherman, I only bring one rod as mobility is key to the places I fish, and the 7' mh rod gives me a lot of versatility.
