Join local bass clubs and try to spend a lot of time on the water. I usually spend 1-3 days a week fishing. Also don't forget to pre fish a tournament even if you know the body well. Don't know if this is helpful. I'm a bit confused on you wanting to get into a tourney. As in a high school tournament or a local bass club one?

Figure out what lake, fish it until you KNOW the pattern and lures that will work. Watch the weather as it can change your fishing day to day. Dont expect to win but if you do be humble about it and move on to the next lake. 2-4 times a week is good, are you catchin em consistently? If not, what can you do to do so? Learn several techniques under different conditions.
