I want to cast my 3/4 and 1 oz lures FAR!!!

I do most of my fishing from shore and I want to catch some trout that's out DEEP!  I'll be throwing kastmasters and lures alike.  What rod / line recommendations would you make?

Thanks in advance.

Not my kind of fishing.  Not a surf fisherman either, but seems like the two might make use of the same type rods. 10' or 11' rods of the correct lure rating and 15-20# braid on a 3000 size reel.  If you were fishing is salt water. I would suggest a 4000 size reel on the off chance of catching a larger fish that could take out a fair amount of line.  Then again, a 4000 size might aid in casting that far.  I think braid would be mandatory for hook setting at those distances.

Curious as to what suggestions you will get from people who actually do this kind of fishing, although a bass fishing forum might not be the best place to ask.  Not that I ever plan on doing this type of fishing, but all fishing interests me.

1/4 oz Kastmasters launch a country mile, so I could only imagine throwing a 1 ouncer. I'd probably throw 8 pound line and a 2500 series spinning reel or a MH baitcaster with 10 pound line.

What is your idea of "far" in yards or feet.

Good question, Tom.  "Far" for me is only about half as far as "far" for some guys.  :sad3:

You haven't mentioned what you are using b/c or spinning.  Either way max distance is primarily a combination of rod, lure profile, line and technique.  In most cases a saltwater fisherman will make long flowing casts (not snap casts), they do go further with more ease and less likely to get windknots if using braid.  The knots can be caused by line coming off the spool too fast and hitting the first guide.  The furthest casting lures I have ever used are ones I'm using now, nothing new just have gotten real popular as of late with the saltwater guys.  There called sling jigs, jig fish, and a variety of other names. http://www.seastriker.com/lures/lures_files/jigfish.htm

You want distance this will cast past any spoon, they flat out catch anything that swims by, I use them for trolling too.  They may not be for you, this is a lure effective for fish that are constantly on the move looking for baitfish, IMO it is not desirable for ambush type predators.  Distance is going to vary with each different set up, but it's going to be much further than what you have now.
