Fluorocarbon Rookie Needs Advice

Just got some #10 Invizix fluoro for deep crankin.

Any rookie advice regarding knots, casting tips, break-in period, etc?

Get some KVD line and lure i don't  personally use it but everyone raves about it on here so I wouldn't hesitate to get some. For knots I use either the Trilene knot or the palomar. Most knots will work with fluorocarbon just make sure the wet the knot really good before you  cinch it down or you could burn the fluoro and compromise the strength of your knot. With casting it can be a little more challenging to handle than mono but you will get the hang of it after a few casts

I just tried straight fluorocarbon on a baitcaster this weekend, 15 lb Invisix. Despite what everyone recommends here I didn't get to buy some KVD for it. Had some real trouble casting it, seemed the spool got out of control way easier both pitching and casting, and I had to turn the brakes up. Things got a lil better once I turned the brakes up and got more used to it. But I still continuously backlashes way more then with Pline Floroclear. I also noticed the line felt like a spring under tension on the spool and the tiniest overrun turned into a mAjor explosion every time. Is this something the KVD helps with? Or am I doing something else wrong.

I felt pretty defeated and was ready to strip it off and respool.

^ sounds like an issue with your reel settings

OP kvd L&L is a must I use it on all lines.

Invizx is a good handling mid priced FC good choice. Many good knots, I have found the pitzen knot to be incredible and have had 0 issues. Easy to tie too

No need to break in the line. I have great success with polmar knot. I don't use line conditioner. I might in the future to see what that's all about.

I'd agree. Sounds like the problem is your reel settings. Tighten up the spool tensioner and maybe the brakes to correct the backlash problems.

Although I know exactly what you mean by line acts like a spring. My new seaguar red label fluorocarbon line acts like a spring and flings off on 1 of my spinning reels but I don't have this problem with my baitcast reel. I researched and found no answers. Even had an experienced friend re spooled my spinning reel and it still fling off. So I contacted seaguar and told them my problem. They didn't have an answer so they just took care of me. I won't say any more than this. Seaguar has great customer service.

Stupid question, but how much line did you put on? How far from the top of the spool is your line sitting?

I have never had any issues with a palomar knot.

So it sounds like the Uni knot that I have been using more and more this year for all kinds of line works fine for fluoro. Good news.

 

And I am also working under the assumption to make sure to never overfill the spool, and to be patient until I have a couple of hundred cast under my belt.

Too late. I've already invested $24 in the line... and doggone it, I'm going to learn how to use it.
