Flippin N Rippin Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I have been a huge fan of the braided lines. I have used fireline, powerpro, suffixs832, ETC. Is one better than the other? I normally use powerpro 30lb on my spinning and baitcasting reels. I just recently started using suffix 832. Any suggestions? I will not use fireline again. Had many bad experiences with the line breaking resulting in lost fish. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 6, 2013 Super User Posted September 6, 2013 Regular, old Power Pro is a proven line. I keep going back, though I do like 20# 832 on spinning gear. 1 Quote
BadBassWV Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I use Power Pro 12/50 I like the way it casts better than the others you mentioned. 1 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted September 6, 2013 Super User Posted September 6, 2013 I use 832, Suffix Performance, and Power Pro. I'm using PP more often where I had used regular Suffix only because the cost difference. Saving a few bucks here and there and virtually equal lines in my opinion. They're all great braids for both spinning and baitcasting. I used to use fireline back in the day, frayed to no end and broke a lot. You did the right thing by switching. 832 will serve you well. Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 6, 2013 Super User Posted September 6, 2013 I've been stuck on the PP Slick in Timber Brown. I've used 832, and liked it. No complaints other than the sound. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 6, 2013 Super User Posted September 6, 2013 Another fan of PowerPro here. I've tried (try) many brands, keep returning to it. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted September 6, 2013 Super User Posted September 6, 2013 I have been PP user for quite some time now. It has never let me down, and Walmart sells it cheap. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted September 6, 2013 Super User Posted September 6, 2013 Nothing but 8lb Fireline on all my spinning reels. I've never has any issues with the line breaking at the wrong time. 20lb Suffix 832 on my baitcasters. Quote
thehooligan Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I use 10lb power pro, slick8, and suffix performance on my spinning reels. Right now i have 20lb suffix performance on my core and loving it. Probally gonna stick with the suffix performance, i like that most and its cheap. Quote
eagon06 Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Been using old fashioned PP for about 8 years now. Going to try the super slick next I think. Quote
Grantman83 Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 For the money suffix performance braid is a pretty awesome line. PP goes without saying as it is tried and true. A friend of mine uses sunline fx and daiwa samurai braid and I must day they are smooth as butter Quote
ROCbass Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 I've only ever used Spiderwire Stealth and Stren Super Braid. I didn't care for the Spiderwire, and the Stren is discontinued. Luckily right after I found out it was being discontinued I found a bunch of it on clearance at Walmart for $4 a spool and stocked up, so I still have a little left, but the day is coming where I'll have to find a new line. gravestone Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 The 3 lines I have used the most are PowerPro Suffix & Fireline. Most of the use with these lines came in the form of saltwater surfcasting.Out of the 3 Suffix had a slight edge over PP, Fireline IMO is junk, I've tried it over and over and still don't like it. I'm heading out to my barn now to take the Fireline crystal of my reels. Tried this line on my freshwater reels for 4 weeks and I got even worst results than I did on my surfreels! Quote
Hogsticker Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 If you're referring to original Fireline, it's a fused line, not a braided line. After trying more braids than I care to mention, I still choose Sufix Performance braid. Never had an issue with it. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 I was using regular fireline since it's introduction, I tried every line out there at one time or another, but kept going back to fireline. Power Pro was always nicer going through the guides, but never cared for it as it was just not tough enough and had issues with the same weight lines as fireline and wind knots and cutting itself. When Fireline Braid came out I thought I would finally have a braid better than fireline,,,,,,,wrong, it was even worse than power pro, All the others were about what I experienced with Power Pro, I was going to give up on all braids until a buddy talked me into Sufix 832, he wanted me to try it before the Fireline Braid but I had tried so many braids and wasn't happy I was sure the FL Braid was the answer. After the 20lbs test on my old curado I was sold, I went to 30# and it was better than 20# FL in every way. I have herd so much good about Samurai and never tried it, maybe I should, but after so many let downs, and being so happy with 832, I just don't see any reason to look for anything else, 832 is more than I ever asked for out of any line!! I simply add whatever I need for leader for the presentation I want and everything is good!! Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 I've been slowly converting more and more of my tackle over to braid this year. I started using PPS8S in Jan of this year and I haven't looked back since. I love this line, it's my favorite braid hands down. I don't have anything against regular PP, it's a good line, I just don't see myself buying it again as long as they're making S8S. I've also had great service from Sufix Performance Braid. I recently picked up a spool of 832 (50# Ghost) but I've yet to try it. It feels good just handling it though so I'm expecting I'll like it just fine. It isn't talked about all that much but I also really like P-Line braid, I just can't find it locally anymore. I really like S8S after about 8 to 10 trips with it when it gets good and broken in, it's so limp and just flies off the spool. I know some guys hate when the coating wears off braid and the line loses its "body" but that's when I start to enjoy it most. As you said, with most things in fishing it's all about personal preference. Quote
