I have a Lowrance Elite 5 DSI and want to be able to mount it in two locations (stern for cruising around searching for structure) and up front for trolling.

Has anyone done this without buying another unit?  I believe I can buy another transducer, mount it and then swap out, but was wondering if there was anyone savvy enough to split the connection or something like that?

Everything i have read about transducers always says to never cut the wire and coil up what you don't need.  So i would say your best bet would be to buy another transducer and not take the risk of screwing something up and having to then buy two more transducers to fix the mistake.

I am sure oithers will chime in...

This seems like something you should be able to do with an a/b-type-switch. I did a quick search to try and find the part, but rendered nothing.

Shoot Lowrance an e-mail.

Do not cut the transducer cable.  Ever.

I would simply get a second transducer and mounting bracket.  I did this so I could move my H'Bird between two kayaks and two boats.

Reviewing what I'm saying - don't cut the cable and run an A and a B off it..... there is a special A/B cable you can use to wire 2 transducers  to 1 unit, so I imagine they make a special cable to connect 1 transducer to 2 units.

I mounted my HB on the large RAM mount by the console in a manner that allows me to turn it towards the bow. I can view it while I'm on the front deck and while driving. It's not ideal for vertical presentations but it is an option.
