I just purchased a Curado 50e and would like to get some opinions on a rod $250 or less. I like to throw the following baits : weightless senkos, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits and txrigged plastics. I would prefer 7ft or less as I am stuck mostly to bank fishing now. Thank you all in advance for your input.

I would suggest these rods (Paired them with my Curado 50E).

1. 1st Gen Cumara 6'8" MH/F - I use it for T Rigs, but definitely can handle the others you asked for in a pinch.

2. Cumulus 7'1" MH/XF - Same as above but better and more sensitive blank

I have a Curado 50e mounted on a G Loomis GL3,

(not GL2) and absolutlely love it. It's a MBR 783C,

6'6" MH. Would work great for what you want.

$220.00 to your door from American Legacy.

I also have a Curado 50E and it's mounted on my new G Loomis MBR783C GLX that I got for $283.00 on ebay. Right now, you can buy a new Loomis 783C IMX for $260.00 shipped on ebay. There are some very nice 783's in either the GLX or IMX on ebay if you do the ebay thing. Another Loomis rod that is in your budget that gets a lot of positive reviews in the 7 foot Loomis MBR843C IMX. You can find a real nice GLX version used for lower than your budget and sometimes new for your budget.

No offence to hootiebenji, but there is no way that I am buying the GL3 version when I can get an IMX or a GLX for the same money. BTW, I have a GL3 723C and it's not as sweet as the IMX version.

I know it isn't nearly up to your $250 limit, but I have my 51E on a Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'10" MF.  Very versatile rod.  You might prefer the 6'9" MHF or MHXF.  I have no experience with the Aetos models, but the couple reports I have read were very complimentary.  There are 7' and 6'9" MHF in that line.

I had 2 IMX's, replaced one with the GL3 when one IMX broke. I already had 2 GL3's. I personally prefer the GL3's hands down over the IMX's.

To each his own I suppose.

A rod in the 3 power range would probably suit you.

I'm going to continue my trend of recommending ALX or KLX rods.  I have a scorpion 1000xt on my ALX deputy and really like it.

I put my 50e on a St. Croix Rage RC68MF, they retail at 150, I didn't pay near that though.  The Avid is the same blank but different guides and cork vs neoprene.  I really enjoy it set up on there, balances well.

I also used it on a St. Croix LTBC610MLXF, it worked great on there, excellent balance, but I love the reel so much I wanted it on something I throw more.  And drop shot and light weight is kind of my last resort, thus the move to the Rage.

Here's my thread with prior recommendations for rods:

Have rod #2 its a great rod, just a little tip heavy with a 50e. Although its very light so hardly noticeable during usage.

For around $250 I think the orochi XX EMTF sounds like it would be perfect for what you do. The JDM version of the 50e balances it very well from what ive heard and is a very versatile rod. The extra length helps with casting distance and the versatility will be helpful from the bank.

I would say NRX 893c but its outta budget

For what it's worth, I fish from the bank and my little boat with 7'-7'4" rods and I don't seem to have any issues. Gets me more distance. Now too water is a different story

Thanks for all the replies.  For some reason I feel like I am gravitating to a Dobyns Champion 683C or 703C.  Why does everyone suggest a 1st GEN Cumara?  What is the diff btwn the 1st generation  and current generation and how do you tell the diff?  Still undecided and will do some more research on the GLoomis and the Cumara.  Thanks again.

Cheers,
