Super User Sam Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 The fishing on the Potomac River is down this year. Greeneye8181 Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I've been fishing twice this week and caught NOTHING. One bite. To be fair though last year in March (with the abnormally warm weather) was insane. My partner and I caught between 50-60 bass one day. I doubt I will ever have a day like that ever again. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 5, 2013 Super User Posted September 5, 2013 I don't fish the Potomac, but wow, eye opening.... Quote
Traveler2586 Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Whats insane is I've seen Smallwood State Park's Sweden Point Marina, my home ramp, with two and a half of its three parking lots full and up to three tournaments, two big name and one local club, going at one time; and this is just one launch point. On the same day I saw the parking lots full at Slavens ramp and Marshall Hall. Then throw in the weekend boaters, small and large boats, the PWC, water skiers, and it's hard to find a spot to fish. Greeneye8181 Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Yes! The tournaments on the weekend are just plain ridiculous. I don't even go fishing on the weekend anymore. You should see Leesylvania on the weekend of a tournament. LONG line to use ONE of two ramps and both parking lots pretty much full. I've also seen them leaving Smallwood on the same day. Just crazy. Stupid really. 1 Quote

Greeneye8181 Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 It just shows when we have a good thing we either ruin it or need laws to contain it. The Blue Crab is a perfect example. Oh by the way, went fishing again yesterday. Not a bite. I really hope they have a tournament one day and everyone comes back empty handed. Teach them a lesson. Quote
VolFan Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 It has been my experience that the fish are still there, they're just in different spots this year. We've had some extremely high water in the last 12 months that moved the river bottom around. Also, the grass/weeds are different this year. I'm actually catching more big fish and less of the "Potomac Deuces" this year. Quote

X2, I'm usually not around for the launch, but I'm there for the retrieval. The things I've seen!!!!!!! Most recently, a lone boater pulls his rig up the ramp and his winch is not locked in, his boat ends up half on & half off the end of the trailer, scraping concrete, before he's stopped by other spectators. I've started asking questions around my area about the state of the Potomac and Tournament pressure, I'll let you know what I find out. 1 Quote

What was the tide doing? Just wondering. Quote
