Taking into consideration recent circumstances, I may have to resort to a crossbow for archery hunting. The problem is that I have very little knowledge of them. Would you guys that have used them please enlighten me on what features I should look for? Thanks.

What ever you do buy a Tenpoint and you wont be disappointed, they are a little pricey but worth it. Get one that has the accudraw or accudraw50 on it and cocking will be a breeze.  Excaliber would be my second choice.

Raider nation said it best, lota good bows but everyone has there favorite, Ten Point, Excaliber, Parker, probably the best out there with the best warranty and world class customer service, there are others that have good bows, but none better and none with the customer service these companies offer. Check with Wyvern Creations, the man services more crossbow hunters than any single dealer on the planet, and very reasonable. Don't buy till you talk to this guy.

I have a Ten Point, I also sell them.

Unless a guy is dead set on another bow due to brand loyalty or money constraints, I can usually help them see the light. Tenpoint is the way to go IMHO.

Shoot me a PM if you like. Maybe we can work something out. ;)

X2 especially the part about calling or e-mailing  "David" at  Wyvern Creations. He will explain everything you'll ever need to know about selecting ,shooting, and maintaining EVERYTHING that has to do with a crossbow. He will always take time to answer your questions both before and after the sale. I bought a 10pt  Wicked Ridge Invader from him in 2010, am very pleased, and still call or e-mail him when I have a question about anything crossbow related.

The invader is a good Xbow for sure.

I think the OP may need an Accudraw though, not just the Accu 50.

I'm happy with my Parker Tomahawk now Thunderhawk. I'm about lighter weight and smaller limbs. What's the deal with Hortons and their warranty issues? I read Tenpoint bought their assets and the Horton name no longer exists? Is Tenpoint covering the Horton's warranty for the old models?

Depending on what you know or don't just remember thump placement and it doesn't stick up past the rail and always use a cocking device or crank system. Also when coming to Parker's and their warranty, how do their determined I'm not sure but when coming to their warranty you must use only their brand bolts. so far as I know when came to replacing the one I lost lol I had to buy a pack of 6 for that one. They use a different kind of nock (capture nock) over the I guess you can say standard moon nock.

I have a Ten Point Wicked Ridge Warrior ,  Only spent 550 after case and bolts and broadheads.  I have a limited distance of 30 yard long shots, My CB shoots 318 fps at 85flbs.  The Toxic broad head slices through a hog like butter.  You can spend more and upgrade, but why?  all crossbows have a limited range of effectiveness usually 60 yards or less.  If money aint a issue spend freely, If your like me and every penny counts then check this site out.  Wicked Ridge .  Just my lil ole 2 pennies worth...
