Hey all,

First post here. Im wondering what exactly everyones setup(s) for jigging are?

Things id like to know:

Rod - kind, length, action, style ( casting / spinning)

Line - what brand of line ( mono, flouro or braid)

Reel

Jigs - what jigs do you use and when

Just looking to hear what setups some people prefer so i can try out some new setups and combos

Been fishing many years but am only really getting into jigging seriously lately

Thanks

My main rig is a G.Loomis BCR854/ Curado 200E supertuned/ Kanzen with a Tatsu #20 leader.

My dedicated weighted soft plastic rig would also be considered perfect for jigs: G.Loomis GLX

MBR844C/ CTE100GT supertuned/ Tatsu #20. For swim jigs: MBR842C/ Core 50E/ Kanzen #20

with Tatsu #15 leader. Lastly, for hair jigs: Dobyn's Champion 683C/ CH50MG/ Tatsu #12.

i use a 7'6 veritas m'h  with a lews mg  7.1.1..  fluro most of the time 15 lb does the job for me... jigs style depends on what your fishing.. but i mainly use swimg jigs or casting jigs, grass jigs and football.. 1/2 oz or 3/8 oz.. if im in heavy cover ill throw it on my heaby rod with 60lb power pro i use this setup around very heavy cover and use 1 oz or 1/2oz...  get a few different styles and wieghts you figure out what you prefer.

I have 2 I use primarily:

Citica 200E 6:3:1

St. Croix Legend TBC74HF - rated 3/8-1 1/2oz

30lb Power Pro Slick 8

This handles 75% of my jig fishing.  As long as it weighs enough I'll throw it on this rig.

Curado 50e 6:4:1

St. Croix Rage  RC68MXF

30lb Power Pro

For bank fishing with a jig, or for lighter jigs.  Used the other 25% of the time.

I just got a Ardent f500 in last week or so.  I've used it a couple of times now and it's growing on me.

St. Croix Mojo MBC70MHF

Spooled with 80lb Power Pro

Used it for heavy flipping/pitching duty.  If its in the junk, this is what I use.

Shimano Chronarch 200E7. Spooled with 20# Seaguar Tatsu. Sits on a Dobyns Extreme 745 FH.

Shimano Curado 200G7. Spooled with 40# Power Pro Sick in Timber Brown. Sits on a Shimano 7'2" MHXF Crucial.

Both casting set ups. I'm testing out the Tatsu on my pitching setup now but I had been using the same 40# PP Slick in Timber Brown.

I have several that use, depending on the jig and cover.

Deep South XXH Flipping Stick/Daiwa TD-X/65# Power Pro: 1/2 oz. and and up brush, grass, footballs

Dobyns DX744/Chronarch E/50# Kanzen: all purpose

G.Loomis JWR 803/TD-X/50# Power Pro: docks, short work in wood.

SC Legend Tx. LTBC70MF/JDM Zillion 7.1:1/15# CXX: swim jigs

My favorite jigging setup I use is a Dobyns Extreme Cast Rod 7' Light 701 paired with an Abu Garcia LTX with the micro spool on it (50m of 6lb tatsu) I used for custom made finesse jigs, really fun to fish.

Jig bites tend to feel different than normal Texas rig bites. As much as I enjoy jig fishing I feel the need to have very good jig rods to handle finesse 1/4 oz jigs all the way up to jigs that push the 3/4 - 1 oz range.

Dx 742 / custom alphas reel with 10# tatsu - finesse jigs around the 1/4 oz range

Dx 703 / curado 50e - with 12# sniper - 3/8 oz jigs mostly the northstar hair jigs

Cumara 7'2 mh xf / curado 200e with 12 shooter - bigger 1/2 - 3/4 oz jigs other paddle tail trailers

Megabass Orochi xx EMTF / scorpion 1000xt with 12 tatsu - 3/8 - 3/4 oz jigs - most versatile jig rod I own.

NRX 873 / custom tdz with 12# tatsu - mostly 1/2 - 3/4 oz jigs

Working on adding something better for my heavier jigs. Right now I have 4 rigs for the job

1 ) NRX 893C / Curado 50e Supertuned, Abec 9's, / Tatsu 12lb.....for anything 3/16-1/2oz

2.) Same combo as above but with 12lb Shooter

3.) Shimano Cumulus 7'1" MHXF / Curado 200e7 Supertuned, Abec 9 / Tatsu 12lb....3/8 -3/4oz but feel on the heavier end its pushing it.

4.) NRX 803C / Shimano Chronarch 50MG Supertuned, Abec 9 / Tatsu 10lb / swim jigs and some dock situations. In 1/4oz - 1/2oz mostly 3/8oz

Could use something for the heavier jigs but I haven't found them too effective for how I fish. Considering adding a spinning rod like a BSR852 GLX or a NRX 852s as well. Haven't figured that one out yet.

My main set up is a Curado 200 E7 on a 6-6 MH St. Croix premier rod.  I usually have 15# mono or fluoro spooled on it.  For jigging in lilypads, or punching I use an old H action 6-6 Diawa procaster rod with an Abu 5600 C3.  I have 50# braid spooled on that one.

I actually use the dobyns champion flipping stick 765 for all my jigs and creature. I also, have gotten in to using the shimano clarus 7'2 heavy for a lot of my jigging. My swim jig rod (formally my full time jig rod) is a st. Croix ltb 7'1 mh xf. I switched over because the ltb I got was a bit to soft for pitching in my opinion

Earlier this summer I was jigging with a 7'3" TFO rod and a Pflueuger President reel. I recently bought a nice casting rod and reel and it as well works great for jigging. Here is a short video that I put together for a college class Im in. In this video I was jigging with the TFO rod and using Strike King Coffee Tubes.
