xxjace Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Okay ill Try and make this quick ..Idk much about skeet reese rods I generally prefer higher end rods..I've heard that the 7 and 7"10 crankin stick is pretty nice for a 90$ rod..I've got a guy trying to trade me one and a citica for a loomis crankbait medium light rod..I'm a big fan of g loomis and there mostly all I use..but the rod I'm moving is just too light for me..let me know your opinions on the reese crankin rods ? I'm very interested in the citica but not so much the rod..i dont currently own a 7"10 crankbait rod and was curious thanks.. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 Every skeet rod I've ever even looked at in a store has the worst guides. The epoxy is either cracked or the guides are so off center I'd never even consider one. Maybe I just have seen the worst of the bunch..idk. The citica/loomis trade isn't worth it. You can auction the rod and probably find a used citica better than what that trade is worth in my opinion. I guess it would depend on the exact Loomis rod too. Quote
xxjace Posted September 4, 2013 Author Posted September 4, 2013 Yeah the rod I have sells for 180$ used at my local tackle store thought about trying to work a deal with them..I'm just not much on anything but g loomis and higher end shimano rods ..just curious about skeet reese rods..I've used alot of good rods that weren't that expensive.. Super User iabass8 Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 The only rod in the skeet reese line up that seems to get any "praise" is the cranking rod. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 All I can say is just what happened to me. I was going to purchased a quantum Bill Dance spinning rod number 1234(example). Then I looked at another quantum rod that looked the same but no Bill Dance name on it but it was model 1234 exactly like the bill dance rod. But it was 2/3rds the cost of the BD rod. I don't buy the rods with the celebs name on them but I'm glad I looked at the model numbers. My point is does this go on with the higher priced rods too? Quote

You should be looking at rod components that it is constructed of and not names. The rod you got that was 2/3rd cost might have a lower quality blank, guides, reel seat...etc. Just because it is the same power/action rating doesn't simply mean it is just as good or bad as the higher price one. Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 Look at it this way. Used Citica's run in the 75-80 dollar range. Your going to trade off a quality rod that can easily bring 150 on a quck sale, more if you are patient. Knock 20% off the Reese rod and you have around 70 bucks. They are equal in trade value. I've never found a Reese rod that looks like it wasn't built by 3rd world 3rd graders. If your a Loomis guy, your never going to be happy with a Reese rod. This is solely my opinion though, but I would never be. Your Loomis will sell here no doubt. Or even ebay. Then you can get what you want. 2 Quote
S_Miketa6 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I had a Skeet spinning rod that snapped on me for no reason and I have a friend that had a crankin on and the guides started to fall off and the Skeet Reese reel he had on it broke on him to, so needless to say there are much better choices for the price! But that was what I have seen in them. Quote
