5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Went to Bass Pro Shop in Concord NC today. Was really excited to show my wife and daughter the huge 150lbs blue catfish named Bud in the tank. However, he died from a bacteria a few weeks ago at the age of 65. Also, there was an albino catfish in with him too that also died from the same bacteria. Apparently the aquarium has been cleaned and a new 54lbs blue catfish will be added in a couple weeks. NEjitterbugger Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 65 years old! That is impressive! I'd love to catch a bass that lived that long!! I'm sorry you guys weren't able to see Bud, I was at the BPS in Foxborough MA... Never realized how big those places are!!! I ended up getting a daiwa lexa 100hl and a vendetta... 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 3, 2013 Global Moderator Posted September 3, 2013 Did they age the fish after it had died? I know catfish live a long time but 65 is extremely old. We lost a couple big ones when I worked at Cabelas in KC. When one of the old blue cat records was caught that weighed 123 pounds the guy donated to us but poor handling before we got there was more than that fish could handle. A 50lb flathead that I donated to the tank had a bad habit of ignoring the bluegills and sunfish in favor of other aquarium fish. After she ate a couple small northerns (hard to get in Kansas) a couple mid range largemouth and smallmouth, a 9 pound walleye, and a 7lb channel cat (that she caught tail first and held onto for 3 days before the channel died so she could eat it) I had to fish her back out of the tank and release her back into the lake she came from so her rein of terror would stop 2 Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 The guy there said it was given to them by someone who had it since it was young. They said it was 65 years old when it died based on how old it was when they got it and how long it was there in their tank. I think Bud was there since it opened. Quote

NE, great you visited the BPS in Foxborough. The one in Charlotte, NC is huge. One day, on your way back from the Mardi Gras in New Orleans with your college buddies you all have to stop and visit that BPS. We have a 105 pound catfish in our BPS aquarium in Richmond, VA. You can stop there, too, on your way to and from New Orleans. And the best part of the visit is that there are no barbers in the store!!!! 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 3, 2013 Super User Posted September 3, 2013 Wow 65 years old. Do you know how long it was in the tank? Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 Just by looking at the pictures I took last year when we went maybe 4 feet. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 3, 2013 Global Moderator Posted September 3, 2013 Just by looking at the pictures I took last year when we went maybe 4 feet. I think he meant the date it was added to the tank, not the actual length, but you already said it was in there since the store opened. 150 pounder would be way longer than 4' long too. My PB blue cat was about 4' long and nowhere near 150lbs. The old world record (130lbs) was 57" long and very fat. That monster would be at least 5' long! There's some still out there swimming in our lakes and rivers, I'd sure love to hook one that size Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 May have been 5 feet. I am positive that the manager told me that fish was 65 years old and weighed almost 150 pounds. :-) Quote

She must be eating everything in that lake shes at. Quote
