Would love to see some of your home made storage solutions for keeping your rods safe at home. I'm kicking around ideas to get my rods out of the corner and not leaning up against the wall. Not sure if I wanna go all out and build a wood rack, or throw something together with some sections of PVC pipe.

So, what you guys doing for home storage?

should stand them up without having them leaning against a wall....IMO standing up without reel on is the best way to store them

Funny you should ask....the stain is drying on a wood rack I just built out of cheap pine.  I'll assemble it in the next few days and post a pic.

Otherwise, I have rods stored in my den/office in an oak store-bought rack and in the garage I have a BPS circular rack along with a couple Berkley vertical wall-mount plastic racks.

If you have some wall space, an inexpensive solution is a horizontal board on the floor with holes to locate the rod handles, and a board with rubber clips mounted to the wall. Someone here has that setup and might post a pic.

I just use a cheapo Berkley vertical rack. I think I got it for $10. Iirc walmart has them.

I made this rack very cheap and easily. Got some wood from home depot and a dowel, drill and space your holes out and glue the rods in. Screw up on the wall and your done.

that's pretty slick. What holds the other end and how far away is it? The same design?

I'm not sure if I want to have them horizontal or vertical.

never seen these till now. The Berkley combo model looks quite nice for $13. May go that route.

I mounted a 6' long 1"x 4" horizontally, spaced hook eyes and hang about 15 rounds.

I have two of those in my garage. Keeps everything out of the way and didn't break the bank

I am in the process of hanging two sets of berkley horizontal locking rod racks in my college apartment. Itll cost me about $15 when it is all said and done and I will be able to hold 8 rods. Sure this isnt all of my combos but at least it gets my expensive stuff out of the corner. At home I have two brackets that are meant to be used to hang shelves in garages to hold rods up. Those cost $12 a piece but when secured properly they can support 200lbs+. This means that they can hold all of my rods along with all of my tackle bags and other gear. Theyre also padded so it is pretty nice.

Finished this rack today. Same design as the store-bought racks.  Width optimized to fit some wall space I had in the garage, casters to move it around if necessary. Room for 9 combos with plenty of handle clearance.

Cost?  $10-$12 bucks I think. Whatever 2 pieces of 1"x6"x6' pine cost me at Lowe's.  I had some 2x3 stock for the feet, the screws, and the walnut stain left-over from other projects. The casters came with a plastic storage container the wife bought and she didn't want to use the wheels.

Thanks!

I know what you mean about the space...this rack now occupies just about the last remaining wall space in my garage; that's why I didn't want to just buy a store-bought rack - I wanted to get the maximum combos possible in this piece of real estate...

Very nice work with the rack. It turned out excellent, and the wheels for mobility is a nice touch. Factor in the cost and your own labor compared to similar rod storage systems availbale for purchase, and you really came out well!

I have to factor my labor cost as "free"...otherwise, none of these projects would make economic sense.

The REAL cost of doing these projects is that for every hour I'm in the garage tinkering...................................I could be fishing...

No kidding. Work vs "play" time on the lake is always a tough decision. I like to save the tinkering and projects for the offseason once winter sets in. With you being down in Florida, you don't really have that luxury. Thanks for sharing the beautiful creation!
