CentralBamaBassin Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Wondering on some tips for fishing the fall transition , ANY SUGGESTIONS! Quote
papajoe222 Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Follow the baitfish. Fish fast moving baits, Concentrate on the upper water column (that's where the majority of active fish will be) If you don't have decent electronics, you're missing out on some great fishing opportunities. Quote
CentralBamaBassin Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 I caught them lastyear on a 1.5 but it's just not working this year I guess I'll try a spinnerbait Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 2, 2013 Super User Posted September 2, 2013 Fall transition; period of time between late summer period and fall. Water temps are cooling into the mid to lower 70's, weeds are starting to die back or change color, the baitfish that live shallow are moving deeper. Shad are moving into creek arms looking for plankton. Crawdads are moving to clay banks. Bass are following their preferred prey. The key to catching during this transition time is being flexible, locating the bait, the bass should be close. Another key element is the thermocline, locate the depth, the bass should be near that depth. It's sonar time, do more searching then fishing, find the bait and bass before blindly fishing and hoping to find bass. Tom Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 the water here is still in the high 80's give anything to have water in the 70's... still having to fish the drop shot in 30' of water. Quote
coryn h. fishowl Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 the now dying weedbeds that once offered O2 and a cool sanctuary are now rotting, warm and poor bass cover. Focus on still living weedbeds, and shallow flats, preferably thaose with boulders. As it gets colder, gravitate more to shallow, clearer rocky areas and very shallow muddy flats, as these will be the warmest places with the most food and the most hungry bass.
