jeremyryanwebb Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I have been working at a plantation/marina for about three months now. It is a fishing community on the Okatie River in SC. We not only have the saltwater side of fishing but we have about 14 stocked ponds throughout the property here. With that being said....you can imagine how overfished these areas are. I fish them often and love using topwater poppers because of the strike. I can grab lips one after another with soft plastics and cranks here but i literally have not had one strike on a topwater since ive been fishing them. I feel like ive spent plenty of time showing them different presentations...am I being too impatient or do you think the fish here have just seen it too many times and got smart? Im still somewhat new to the area but i feel like ive done pretty good on matching up lure colors Quote
dday07 Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Are they hitting baitfish at the surface? Are you fishing lowlite conditions morning or evenings or cloudy days? try diff.topwater lures...walk the dog, frogs and buzzbaits are good in ponds..also try and match the hatch as much as possible....good luck 1 Quote
jeremyryanwebb Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Thanks dday07. Yeah they hit the surface really shallow quite a bit but I cant get them to commit to my poppin lure. Ive been using a Heddon Popin Image. Maybe its time to move onto a different one Quote

Maybe its time to move onto a different one I like the popn image but both sizes might be too big for your pond...a smaller pop'r or small rapala skitter pop are more subtle Quote
jeremyryanwebb Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Good Call! I was probably getting a little greedy with the size for this pond Quote
