loudcherokee Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Currently using Berkley vanish for leader material. After reading all the horror stories about it here and elsewhere, I'm gonna make a switch. Have read lots of good stuff about seaguar invisx and red label, but which would make a better leader for finesse presentations tied to 15# yellow power pro? Plan on using 8# for leader. If I were to decide to fill a spool with one of them, which would be the better option with less memory and problems? Is one more sensitive than the other? LC Quote
ChrisAW Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 If you want to use it for leader, I might use AbrazX instead. It has better abrasion resistance than InvisX. But if you may end up spooling it instead of just leader, InvisX is much more supple, and easier handling. Get you some Line and Lure conditioner though, its still going to be a little harder to handle than any mono. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 1, 2013 Super User Posted September 1, 2013 I use Red Label, you can't beat it for the price. I have hauled 5 and 6lb fish out of heavy cover with zero issues. In fact, seriously, I break more rods than I do line. 2 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted September 1, 2013 Super User Posted September 1, 2013 if it's just leader material, there isn't any reason to get picky. just make sure it has good abrasion resistance if it needs it. though not perfect, red label works fine just make sure you check your line as it's abrasion resistance isn't great.. another option would be suffix's new 100% fluoro. same price as red label. i would use invizX on a spinning reel before red label. If your in some serious rocky areas or zebra mussels, AbrazX would be your ticket. If your looking for a fluoro leader for a finesse presentation, InvizX would be your ticket. Then there Tatsu, the best of both worlds. Quote
Diggy Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Red label went from main line with issues to leader material with no issues, seems much better suited for that IMO Quote
Super User Darren. I've got a spool of Red in 10lb. Haven't used it in a long time. May have to try it out at least for comparison against 10lb XPS fluoro. Have always used it for leader since I bought it. Not sure anymore why I stopped using it. But my confidence is still in P-Line Floroclear #1, and Yo-Zuri Hybrid #2... Quote
Diggy Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Interesting, Diggy. I've got a spool of Red in 10lb. Haven't used it in a long time. But my confidence is still in P-Line Floroclear #1, and Yo-Zuri Hybrid #2... I had it breaking on the spool in random spots. Even worse if I got a minor backlash it would break where it kinked with hardly any pressure. May have been a bad spool. I sent 2 emails to them and they havent returned one of them. I bought some invisx on sale, I dont know why I did based on the lack of customer service response I received about the red label. I have no problems with either line at the moment in the manner I am using them. Quote
21farms Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 here's a snippet from the seaguar website: 5) What are the differences between Seaguar fluorocarbon Leaders and Seaguar fluorocarbon Lines? Strength – While both are strong and will withstand the lb test listed, leader and tippet are stronger over shorter lengths and are not designed to be a long, main line product. The main lines are designed to take the impact load over a much longer distance, transferred throughout the line. Double Structure Technology – Our FC, FP, GM, and FX are all Double Structure, (2 to 80 lb), a Seaguar exclusive process that injects two different molten resins through a special die. The resins are extruded as one solid piece. The harder, inside resin contributes to the Tensile Strength, while the softer, outside resin creates greater Knot Strength. Our current main lines are single structure. Price – Leaders and Tippets are more difficult to produce because of double structure and the resins involved, therefore line is less expensive and leader/tippets cost more. Resins – Since Seaguar is the only fluorocarbon brand in the world that makes its own resins, different exclusive resins are used for all of our products. The resins in our line are different than the resins in our leaders. basically, main lines and leaders are constructed differently. seaguar confirms that this also applies to red label main line and red label leader material. only seaguar tatsu is a main line that is constructed like leader material and can be used as such. that being said, i use red label main line as leader material with no problems. LC Q1: Which FC is the Best Leader?......Answer = Tatsu Q2: Which FC is the best to fill a spool with in regards to memory and sensitivity?....Answer Tatsu (I also like shooter, but longevity is holding up better with tatsu) Cheaper option for Q1 & Q2 = Sunline FC Sniper, Seaguar invizX. Concerning memory and handling, invizX takes the ball for its price point. As mentioned, leader's are not as demanding as filling a whole spool with the stuff. Still, do not use vanish.....just don't. Red Label, Abrazx, they'll get the job done fine as a leader. Quote
craww Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Pick up the actual leader mtl....I've been using the 12lb for a couple years and love it. The little coil lasts longer than you'll think. I actually prefer it to the 12lb yozuri hybrid I also use. Quote
loudcherokee Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Lots of good info for me to read up on. Thanks folks. Never considered the tatsu as it seems expensive for leader. LC Quote
