Hey guys, I was at the BPS reel counter the other day helping my brother choose a reel (he got the BPS Pro qualifier by the way) and I pointed out the Quantum Exo (baitcaster) to my brother. The employee helping us was young and seemed nice and he offered to let us look at it. The second I felt it i was in love. I am honestly considering saving up the $250 needed to buy one. Do any of you guys have one? Thoughts?

Thanks!

No I don't have one, i will offer what i have read and used. I have heard mixed reviews on the exo, more bad than good. I fished an older and have a quantum energy the model before this update, pt vi I think. I like them very much. Havent used them or casters enough in general to say i love them or best ever etc. From what I hear the smoke is most people's choice to the best quantum out, some say one of their best ever. Both Exo and smokes I handled in the store are sweet reels I would give either a home. Personally though my eye is on the new tour mg, Hope this helps some.

One thing I don't rely on is reviews from places like TW, BPS, and Cabelas, I tend to form my own opinion and sometimes you have to. The reason I say this is because if you take the time and look at the reviews of a reel, go to a different retailer and see similar reviews with similar language and after a bit you think the bad reviews must be true as they all say the same exact thing, that is a tip. Most of these are from the same people, most of whom don't own the reel and just parrot other things they heard. I saw a bad review on a Lews Tournament MG, the same review was on 5 different sites under different names but they were too close to have been different people. I admit Quantum has had their share of problems but so has the rest of them, the only problem is a bad Daiwa or Shimano review will get you bashed pretty hard so the bad experiences don't get aired as much but they do happen. I'm on the fence with the EXO, part of me want to try it but I just can't justify the added cost versus a Smoke, the Smoke reels I have are just flat out performers and I don't think you can do much better, at least not that much money better. Any reel in that price range is going to perform well, so fear not, because when it comes to reels, every brand has reels in that price range and they're all good, some more than others but you don't have to worry and in reels any defect will show up well before the warranty expires.

if you buy it at the walmart (link posted by someone else above) then its cheaper then the smoke. I would say give it a shot, even though ive never used a quantum b/c

i have a smoke that i love! so  i bought an exo fished like a dream until faceplate fell of in the lake!!!!! not kidding!!!!!!!! sent it local store, to get it fixed. quantum made me send it back to them so quantum could fix it (for free). have not got it back yet ,but I'm hoping its as good if not better than when the flake plate fell off! it was light ,fit in my hand well, and casted like a dream!

I notice that all the display models are missing sideplates or they are sitting on the counter right under/next to the reel. Thats one of the main complaints that I noticed online.

Can't comment on their BC reels but have a couple of spinning reels { Cabo,Energy & Pulse } all 3 broke after hard use but the parts were cheap and the company was easy to deal with.

Those reels are a lot easier to work on than my Shimanos also.

I have owned a few of their reels and the Smoke is def. the best one they have going.  You can get them for quite a deal online.  Only issue I had with the smoke was the sideplate was a pain in the A** to remove and put back.  However, the brakes are external unlike the EXO so I only had to do that to lube it up etc.

Thanks for the replies guys, looks like the smoke would be a good option. Now time to start saving money!
