Growing up in Western New York I had never even heard of boiled peanuts, but I moved to South Carolina about a year ago and developed a liking for them. I've made my own a few times and they're pretty good, but I was wondering if anyone had recipes they would be willing to share or just different ideas for spices to try. So far I've just made them with plain brine and brine plus half a bottle of franks redhot.

Boiled peanuts are God's gift to man Clayton. They are like Pringles, once you pop the fun don't stop.

I could mail you some if I need to Clayton. They sell cans of boiled peanuts in gas stations down here. I don't know about NY.

Try boiling them in beer.  ;)  Growing up in Upstate SC, there are a few things you can always count on.  Fresh Veggies/Fruits on the side of the road, Boiled Peanut Stands (that also made fresh meat skins), Gaffney's giant peach/water tower, and firework stands.  ;)

My dad has even perfected making jelly out of the dreaded kudzu (well the blossoms of the kudzu).

As Mr_Scrogg suggests, boil them in beer.

They are OK. I like the North Carolina goobers better. You can get the big goobers from Hubs Nuts in Sedley, Virginia. Worth every penny. Try the chocolate covered goobers or the "Turtles." Out of sight!

If you have never had the pleasure of the big North Carolina peanuts you will really enjoy yourself. Just keep them hidden from the family, coworkers and friends. Otherwise, they are gone on sixty seconds.

Man, I remember driving through NC/VA and seeing those peanut fields.  Nothing beats a good Roasted Peanut.  Reminds me of watching the Greenville Braves as a kid with my dad.

You won't, aquaholic, And those things you can find in the grocery store, Canned Boiled Peanuts, is a injustice.

I tried those things and did not like them at all.

Someone else, from Wisconsin, tried them and liked them.  They went back up there and then asked if we would send them some.  We got some cans of boiled peanuts, from Wal-Mart, and sent them up there.  They were looking at the labels and found they were canned in Green Bay.  I guess it was something to do to keep the canary working in the off vegetable season.

I really like roasted and salted peanuts, but boiled ones you can feed to the hogs.

I googled it and I think I'm eating some right now actually I eat them like every day. I'm probably wrong but from the brief discription and picture i seem it just looked like peanuts in the shell

Boiled in some salt water. Well that's what I'm eating right now at work is a bag of salted peanuts in the shell???? If that's what they are then yeah I've had em I eat a bag or two evey day.

Boiled peanuts are the single most odd thing I have ever watched my wife eat. She can eat them like no mans business, but she can not stand soggy bread or biscuits. Makes no sense to ms that she can eat soggy peanuts, but not sausage gravy on her biscuits. Poor woman is confused.
