Super User 00 mod Posted August 31, 2013 Author Super User Posted August 31, 2013 I'm looking for a teener as well!!!!! Jeff Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted August 31, 2013 Super User Posted August 31, 2013 I'd be happy with anything bigger than my PB of 7lbs. To catch something almost double that is just mind blowing to me. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted August 31, 2013 Super User Posted August 31, 2013 I don't know where you were fishing but I never saw a fish under 4lbs on the end of my line at lake B. Although there weren't many - I tossed a few in the live well ~ "Lunchies" as Manual called them. Funny - a 4lb Lunchie, they were tasty. A-Jay Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted November 15, 2013 Author Super User Posted November 15, 2013 Just got back, and calculating the numbers now! We added another 135 hours on the lake, bringing the total number of hours up to 420 hours for this "scientific study" and while I know the results, I cannot post the new numbers until the official post has been made. Lucky Craft Man Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 All I know is that a DD Largemouth is a trophy even if it came from a Bass Pro Shops display tank. It is a great accomplishment and fish. I can't wait to see the report from your trip!!! 1 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted November 16, 2013 Author Super User Posted November 16, 2013 With the total number of hours for my research now at 420 hours, the total number of bass caught over the magical 10lb mark is now at 10, for myself and people who have gone with me(not including the guides). This brings the rate to: 420 hours/10bass = 1 DD bass per every 42 hours fished!!! Next scheduled trip down is in March and is filling fast! Already 8 people signed up! This should at least triple the total number of hours on the water, and gain even more valuable research data! Jeff 1 Quote

Brian Needham Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 what is it with "guide fish" included. to me, hours fished are hours fished no matter who is fishing them, along with DD caught. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 16, 2013 Super User Posted November 16, 2013 what is it with "guide fish" included. to me, hours fished are hours fished no matter who is fishing them, along with DD caught. I think you're right Brian, but these guys know this lake so well. By seeing and fishing it with the water down to 30 %, when it fills back up it's almost like cheating. They do not use any electronics and are constantly pointing out "The spot on the spot" even though it might be in 25 feet of water. The guides fished off an on. Mostly after we had beat up a new spot and perhaps not met our potential (at least in their eyes) they would spray a few casts and show us that we'd missed a few. I learned a lot about angles and fighting / landing Big Bass. Either way, when those fish are included, the hours fished per DD bass caught would go down accordingly. A-Jay 2 Quote
Brian Needham Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 true, you would not want to "skew" any results. 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 16, 2013 Super User Posted November 16, 2013 true, you would not want to "skew" any results. It's all good - Admittedly this is the only trophy bass fishery I've ever visited. So I can't tell you if this one is any better or worse than another. But Lake Baccarac has been everything I had hoped for ~ twice. A-Jay 2 Quote
BennyB Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Just hearing about your stories gets me all pumped up! 10+ Lb bass, or as Bob Lusk stated, "One in every 25 to 30 million bass!" Simply amazing guys!!! 2 Quote

Insanity Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Was a fishing show on TV um some 10 years or longer ago. Thinking it was jimmy Houston. Caught about three 10 + In a row and said heck lets try for ten over 10+ in a row. And did it. Unless they edited out the small ones. Which I figured. That's one place I'd love to go! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted November 17, 2013 Super User Posted November 17, 2013 We talked to legendary guide Sixto the last night we were there. He told us a story about catching three 10lbers in under 15 minutes from the same spot. With his reputation I had no reason to doubt him. 2 Quote

A-Jay I don't know if that is more amazing or humbling. for the fact here stateside we run around with our hummingbirds/lowrances and still stuggle on days.........while those guys are dink dropping 7#ers off a spot the size of a bathtub in 25fow. love hearing the stories from trips like this. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted November 21, 2013 Super User Posted November 21, 2013 The time to catch DD bass from any trophy bass lake is during it's peak period. Anyone seriously interested in catching these special bass should contact Jeff and book a trip to Baccarac. Your odds are good, better if you focus your efforts on DD bass in lieu of catching those pesky 5 to 7 lber's. Tom PS, Matt are you attending the BAT this year? 3 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted November 21, 2013 Author Super User Posted November 21, 2013 The latest installment of Bass Resource members DD bass: Dwight Hottle:(Welcome to the club sir) A-Jay: (with his second Baccarac DD, and the biggest of BR members so far 11lb 11oz)) And myself: (5th) I certainly look forward to updating this list at the end of March next year!
