WiregrassRiverRat Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Whenever I see pictures of peoples gear specifically baitcasting reels.. the line looks so beautifully spooled.. pretty.... shiny.. etc.. my question.. Why does mine never look like this???.. I spool it pretty tight.. take my time.. but it never looks sooo good.. even after just spooling it.. I use mostly seaguar flouro invizx.... and I am using a lews speed spool... WHATS THE DEAL? Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted August 29, 2013 Super User Posted August 29, 2013 Okay, Lews + Invizx is your problem. Try this: Zillion + Siege Neon Tangerine = Nice Maybe it is like a lot of babe pictures. Wet the line first with some clear lotion. Just don't get too excited putting it on. Just pulling your chain. No idea why. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 29, 2013 Super User Posted August 29, 2013 Take a pic, and let us see. I don't see how the line will not lay right regardless of the brand. It could be a real simple fix. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 29, 2013 Super User Posted August 29, 2013 Why are mashed potatoes used for ice cream in advertising? Why are models air brushed in ad pictures? Why are background colors so important in advertising - check out the background colors. They are that color for a reason. Even in car commercials the backgrounds are specifically selected. Many, if not all of the fishing ads are also staged. The baits glimmer. The baits are staged and set up with special lighting. The ads are to sell the sizzle and not the steak. So if you think you can duplicate the product's profile in real life you have one heck of a challenge in front of you. Your spool looks fine in real life. Who cares how it looks, anyway? Just spool it up; put that reel on your favorite rod; get out of the house and do some fishing. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 You mean to tell me that you don't spit on your line before you take a picture of your reel!?!?!?!??! EVERY bass fisheman who takes pictures of his gear knows that the key to a good picture of your reel is to spit on it!! 1 Quote
Bill B. Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Maybe you are looking up as you wind on the line. Don't look up. Keep your eye on the line. Follow through. -- P. Mickelson 1 Quote
Dyerbassman Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 As long as it works, who cares how it looks?!?!? The fish don't..... Quote

I use mostly seaguar flouro invizx.... and I am using a lews speed spool... WHATS THE DEAL? How are you spooling the line? I tie in the middle of the spool. I run my line through all the guides and put my fresh main spool as far away as I can. Usually 20 feet. I center the rod at 12 o'clock and have my rod tip at 95-100 degrees forward. Don't tip it to one side and keep everything level. When your about 1/4 spooled make sure the line is being laid down on both ends of the spool evenly. If its not, you can help one side get more line by moving the rod tip from left to right but keeping it at 95 degrees. For instance If the left side of the spool is lower than the right, move the rod tip to the 3-4 o'clock position, and the line will build up a tiny bit more on the left side. Sometimes when I'm done, ill take the line and tie it to the neighbors little bird on his mailbox and walk back 100 yards. Then I reel in (rod tip in the same position). That usually makes it perfect. I feel your pain. I have severe OCD and it has to be perfect for me. Just my thing. If your line isn't being evenly laid on the spool or being forced to one side big time, something is wrong with your reel. Check and clean the worm gear for the line guide. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 30, 2013 Super User Posted August 30, 2013 If you don't use your gear it will always stay pretty. Quote
WiregrassRiverRat Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh244/YASONA13/IMG_0813.jpg Look at that picture... that looks like candy.. sooo smooth.. and cool color too.. I went to the show us your gear to see if I could find one that looks like mine and alas I could not.. Maybe its just because they freshly spool it.. I also wish I had access to all of the colors they have.. I am soo weird.. Quote
