JEEP302 Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Just wanted to see if anyone had been fishing in the tidal Appomattox river and been having any success this year with all the rain here in VA? I hadn't seen any post about fishing the river just thought id throw it out there and see what people are saying. Thanks Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 29, 2013 Super User Posted August 29, 2013 Have not fished the Appomattox this year so I have no idea of the water clarity. If you can find clean water you will find the bass. Quote

Last time I fished the Appomattox was two years ago and we clobbered them. I started the day with a beautiful three pounder on a buzzbait under the Route 10 bridge and we just flipped and flipped our way to Comstock. Saw a big water moccasin swimming around Swift Creek by Point of Rocks in the Walthall Channel which was very interesting. It was a fat snake and it took off into the grass when we came by. Glad to read the river is still producing some good fish. And have you noticed the Prince George police boat in the river? They are looking for anyone consuming alcohol. Take fare and let us know how you are doing on the Appomattox River. Quote
JEEP302 Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 So I ended up doing out to the river on the 30th and launched from the small boat harbor in colonial heights, we had 10 on the day with the biggest being 2.6 and the rest pretty close to that. Most of the fish we found where holding pretty tight to deeper water structure mostly big lay downs with rocky banks but it had to be close to 12 foot of water or the bite was not their. Most of the fish we caught were on the tide moving out at slack or moving in it was a struggle to find fish. 1 Quote

If the tournament is on and you blast off from Hopewell, just fish the marina area and then beat the bank up and down the river with the other guys. Hit the bridge trestles and also along the bank by the bridge. Consider going into Falling Creek and also the Comstock area. Plastics and treble hook baits will work. Be safe and good luck. Quote
