preach4bass Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 The correct number is seven.  I'm sorry. 7 in a row; 9 total in the BCS era (compared to the 6 that every other conference has.....combined!).   I don't think that's hardly "confirmation that the Sec pedestal isn't quite so high these days." 38 Super Fan Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 There isn't one player on that team that has ever lost a national championship game. Don't hold the failures of the 2006 and 2007 Buckeyes against the 2014 team. Yeah, and the sad part is the 06 Buckeyes were actually a lot better than this years team. The Bucks might be a serious contender in a few years, but this team had better pray they never have to play against the SECs elite.   Quote

Ima Bass Ninja Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 The sad part of opening day is that the SEC bottom dwellers showed us why they are bottom dwellers. Â MissySippy State, Kensucky and Vandy all lost which is embarrassing to the conference. Â At least they play some decent basketball. Â Â is Georgia a bottom dweller too? Or 4 in a row, the thumb cometh, Clemson. Please , you don't wanna count how many times we have beat USC. I believe we are still up in the rivalry by 24 wins. 1 Quote
SCangler91 Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 After reading through the previous page, man there are a lot of conference fans. Â Not surprising though its become pretty common here in the South these days. Quote
sbfishySC Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 As Coach Swinney has recently said, "We got all the respect in the world for the SEC...but it's not about a league. It's about a program, bottom line." 2 Quote
aquaholic Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 What does it matter how many ncgs your conference has won in a row? It only matters how many ncgs your team has won in a row. No way alabama goes to the ncg this year, They should of lost to lsu and georgia last year. And judging by yesterdays performance they will for sure this year. 1 Quote

Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted September 1, 2013 Super User Posted September 1, 2013 Hell, I wanted Virginia Tech and TCU to win yesterday. Only SEC team I was going for other than Auburn yesterday was Georgia. Only because in sick hearing my SIL talk about how great Clemson is. I mean my God your a d**n Auburn fan. Stop cheering on other football teams, because your BIL went there. Quote
aquaholic Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 They probably will go again. The BCS loves Bama. I dont think the bcs loves bama, as much as the love the winner of the  sec and the sec as a whole. I know its early but the sec looked weak from what i saw yesterday. Or at least the ranked teams of the sec did. I think alabama, and t a&m would of got smoked by clemson yesterday. For Georgia and clemson to come and play week 1 like they did showed how strong they were, while the two ncg teams of last year had a rather lack luster performance and the defenses looked like a highschool team compared to last year.  And texas a&m, with out johnny showoff they would be nobody. I think that was proven yesterday. His attitude i think turned a ton of people off yesterday. This kid is a scandal waiting to happen.  Whats everyone think about this new disqualification rule? I hate it. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted September 2, 2013 Aqua, as for the new disqualification rule we will be playing flag football in a number of years. Quote

derekxec Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 the SEC is too competitive and thats what makes most of the teams great haha Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 . Which team do you think will beat Clepson and knock them out of the BCS title talk? Post in the SEC SEC SEC thread. Hopefully we have overcome the stigma of letting our guard down and losing to inferior teams like duke and Maryland. We always seem to have trouble with the triple option of Georgia tech but honestly I think our biggest challenge left is the gamecocks. 1 Quote

I hate it.  Can't stand it either, too powerful for a judgement call and I can see it determining the outcome of a game this year.   As for SEC love, well, some say we play a different kind of ball.  Every conference has their "can compete with anyone in the nation" teams, but as of late, no one can top the SEC in ranked teams.  Some also say that SEC hype helps in ranking, but expect that not to matter when the playoff system is installed.   Hopefully we have overcome the stigma of letting our guard down and losing to inferior teams like duke and Maryland. We always seem to have trouble with the triple option of Georgia tech but honestly I think our biggest challenge left is the gamecocks.  I'm a Carolina fan, and I hate to say it, but Clemson is legit this year.  I would add FSU to your biggest challenges, and watch out for trap games.  1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted September 2, 2013 As Fish so elegant states, watch out for those ACC teams. They can pull an upset at any time. I have seen it year after year so no team, including FSU, has an easy game via conference foes. Â And yes, Clepson has a history of losing a game they should have not lost. Maybe they can change it this year. Â Clepson's only problem, like Loserville, is their strength of schedule. If other ACC teams do well then Clepson will be ranked high in the BCS standings. If not, then the ACC will hurt Clepson's chances of playing for all the marbles even if they defeat FSU and South Carolina. Â Stay tuned, here comes week 2 and more excitement. Quote

With Clemson ranked high in preseason, I do not see them being hurt by winning ACC games.  Sure, on one of your cupcake games you may drop a spot even if you win, but if they were to run the table AND win conf championship, then I could see them playing for the NC.  As for USC... I see their toughest game being next week against a ticked off Georgia team.  Even with Marshall out for the year, they got a horse in Gurley and I expect him to test our D line.   Georgia would be good if Murray could put away games.  He falls apart after a big sack.  Couple this with the fact that he is 1-10 against ranked teams, and I'll pick a strong defensive team over them any day.  EDIT: I just read your post over again, and I see what you mean by Clemsons opponents ruining their ranking by losing.  Thats why the SEC has power.  Sure, we have our bottom dwellers, but our top half are strong strong, which helps in bcs ranking when you factor in conference play. Â Players are tiring from the fast constant pace, Â momentum is rising and the other team's qb is on a rhythm. Â As a coach, would you burn a timeout to stop the game and possibly throw off the qb's hot streak, or take advantage of player health rules and fake a leg cramp to give your d coordinators time to get a scheme together?
