i am thinking of picking up a dobyns savvy micro guide 735c for flippin/ pitching and sometimes frogging. i have read some reviews about the savvy saying that it is not great for bottom contact techniques. what is your take on this? Should i get the savvy or possibly a crucial. maybe even go up to the champion series but dont really want to spend that much. So is the savvy worth it or should i be looking at other rods for flipping and pitching?

Well there are Labor Day sales going on. For a frog rod, the 735 is money. It isn't as sensative as the champion series for bottom techniques but remember, with braid you are going to feel even more.

I have the 735 for my frog techniques and don't feel a need for extreme sensitivity while throwing topwater. If you can afford it, try the champion 735c, that way you will get the best of both world to frog and flip/pitch.

I have 2 Dobyns Savvy rods that I use for pitching and I love them.

thanks for the input guys! i have decided to narrow it down to two rods. the savvy 735 or the champ 765FLIP. I will be using it for only flipping and pitching. is the 765 flip really that much more sensitive or should i just stick to my original plan of the savvy?

Thanks!

the 765 is more sensitive but remember it's a flipping rod so it has more of fast/mod fast tip. the 735 savvy has an Xfast tip. it isn't to say the flip won't work for frogging because it will but the savvy 735 is better suited towards it. for an all around meat stick for punching/flipping/pitching/frogging i'd look at the dobyns chamption 736. or 735 you can get either in full or split. grip.. the savvy isn't as "sensitive: as other rods in its price point but it isn't a slouch especially when coupled with braid. the different between the dobyns champ xtreme and savvy is night and day though. so there is a huge gap. the gap between the savvy and champion is larger than the gap between the champ and the champ extreme if that makes sense.

Are you saying that the champ is much more sensitive than the savvy and the champ x is only a little bit more sensitive than the champion?

the sensitivity gap between the savvy and the champion series is much larger than the gap between the champion and champion extreme. the DX is quite a bit more sensitive than the champ series but it isn't night and day like the savvy to the champion. handle one and then handle the next series up for the same technique and you will notice the difference i'm talking about.
