Mccallister25 Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Guys, Im gettin ready for bow season next week and I have a question for you. I have a lot to buy, so Im trying to save money as best I can. I have a half bottle of scentless laundry detergent, and spray. Does anyone know if I can still use this, or does it expire? Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted August 29, 2013 Super User Posted August 29, 2013 If I remember correctly the dead down wind spray refill packs say to use them within 2 weeks. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 I hang my hunting clothes outside with cut apples in there pockets for a few days and nights. When I'm in the pines near the Apple orchard border I will slice the pine tree branch with my knife a tad so the sap will bleed a little and smell of pine and my cut apples will cover my scent. I have had black bears come within 10' from me in the high grass before a little bird sang it's heart out to the beat of go back there's a hunter near you. Darn birds. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 Birds help both the hunters and the hunted some times. Crows often announce the coming of a coyote/fox same when the song birds and squirrels shut up. They also don't mind sitting on a branch above you telling all four legged critters where you are. jhoffman Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Ill tell it to you like this, you will NEVER beat a whitetails nose. Let me say it again... you will NEVER beat a whitetails nose. If you think theyre down wind there is something out there doing things that you cant see, air currents flow like water in a creek. Except this creek also has the ability to flow up. The scent control industry is the biggest farce to ever come around. Get yourself a milkweed pod and stand at the edge of a clearcut on a cold winter day when the sun is beating down. Release the milkweed seed and watch, it will go strait up at some point, regardless of temp or direction of wind, what you are seeing is thermals. Do the same from a treestand, try it with a smoke bomb in the off season. Now, think about the fact that a whitetail has the ability to distinguish like 8 seperate scents at once. You smell a pepperoni pizza.... he smells the sauce, the cheese, the dough, the seasoning, the pepperoni. Putting perfume on a pig is never gonna help in other words. Your body loses 10's of thousands of skin cells all day every day, you cant ever stop it. Save your money, buy better gear. Better gear doesnt mean junk clothing you find pimped by tv pros either. Hiking gear is the best of the best and in draub colors its just as good as overrated camo. You want a garment designed by a guy whos outside 30 days a year or one by a guy who lived in the woods day and night for a year or more? I could go on all day brother, but if you want me to open your eyes a little more to the foolery send me a pm. Ive got quite a few GREAT sources to turn you on to that will really open your eyes in the hunting world. 2 Quote
