Anyone Fish Loon Inhabited Waters

Just curious do they chase your SwimBaits...I have to stop fishing for they chase mine right up to my boat.

unfortunately, I hooked one on a local lake.  Didn't t notice it in the area diving, but I thought I caught a rock or a log, and up comes loon.  I'm much more careful of my surroundings, especially on lakes with a healthy population of loons.  Amazing birds, love seeing them out there, but they make me nervous.

I fish around them a ton. I've never had an issue with them. Gulls on the other hand always seem to dive bomb my poppers.

Loons usually do not do that. Your swim bait must a pretty realistic example.

I've only seen loons when I've been up to Canada or they far points of the Wisconsin Northwoods.  Never have i seen them go after lures. Usually if you approach them they swim off or go under and pop back up 20 yds further away.

LOL, that's retail price. These baits get released 3-4 times a year if that and are gone in minutes. They get resold for double retail all the time.

How do we know of these release dates?  I tried emailing them, I want a few items.  I'm on a pc daily so my timing could be perfect.  Anyone have insight to when 3:16 releases their stuff, let me know.

you just have to get lucky and keep refreshing the site or know the right people. Occasionally mickey drops a hint on the 3:16 FB page.

Loons do bite baits.. I've heard stories of it.. The lake I fish mostly has a loon family who loves to come see what you your up to cruising around

I fish loon inhabited waters all the time, Never had any issues with them. They just do their own thing and I do mine. Beautiful birds

I fish around loons quite a bit but i've never had one chase a bait before. It is so eerie having a loon swim right along side the boat especially if you didn't know one was around. Those big, wide, black and white shapes always startle me when i see them under the water.

I have fished loon waters when I head up to northern Wisconsin. I have never had one bite my bait, but when I see one dive in my vicinity I get nervous.

table rock is getting quite a population of loons during the winter. they eat a lot of fish. i have never had one take in my lure while fishing however.

I fish a lot of Loon infested waters and never had problems.  Of course I don't own baits that look like that! 

 

I did get a loon when I was in my Kayak, it was very curious.  It came pretty close to me and started making a sound.  So, I decided to leave...didn't understand, but I didn't want to take a chance that it was a warning sound.

Exactly my feeling the first time one came within a few feet on my boat.....and d**n are they fast swimmers.

I fish in Wisc during the summer and am constantly around loons. Never had one chase any baits. I've seen them swim right under to boat a bunch of times, though.

I fish Squam Lake in New Hampshire where 'On Golden Pond' was filmed. Lots of Loons and they sometimes get curious.

 

I have to laugh... took a newbie fishing buddy out one day and was showing him these impressive and fairly large birds.

Well, one swam or should I say flew...because that's how they propel themselves underwater.... under the boat and had my friend all geeked out. He just about had a heart attack when that thing went wizzing by in search of bait.

I've never had a loon go after a bait on me, but they gobble up all my lead sinkers that are 1/2 ounce or less like there is no tomorrow.    Or so they tell me.

Never had a loon chase a bait. I have had seagulls pick up free lined shad, an owl pick up my jitterbug, blue herons chase spooks and stab at swimbaits, green herons chase spooks, and kingfishers dive bomb topwaters.

Yes and i have seen them swimming under the water chasing my pop r before.
