Super User bigbill Posted August 28, 2013 Super User Posted August 28, 2013 I just found a new Shakespeare bait casting rod with ceramic guides for under $10 go figure. Sorry it was $7.99 I can feel the love coming soon.... The truth is I wanted one cheap rod to use braid on. I happen to spot one with ceramic guides. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 The chance of modern braid hurting a guide is minimal at best. Even if that weren't the case a $10 rod wouldn't be the answer. 1 Quote

The chance of any quality new rod being damaged by braid is non existent, but only the lowest quality rods use softer ceramic guides, most quality rod's use newer lighter and harder materials than the softer ceramic alloy the $10.00 rods use, hence the price difference, at least part of the cost difference. Treat it with caution, the fact is you get what you paid for. Quote
