james_oxley Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Hey guys, I have had some issues with the hook up ratio with spro frogs. I tried to bend out the hooks a little bit but those things will not budge. I was using pliers but couldn't make any progress. Any suggestions? Thanks, James Quote
Blues19 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Ive tried to bend those suckers as well, and they are solid. I however have got the timeing down on the hookset and I have been about 90% this summer on hookups. I would like to find out how to bend those suckers as well though. Hope you figure it out, bro Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 26, 2013 Super User Posted August 26, 2013 Leave the hooks alone they are fine. Your technique needs some tweaking that's all. Either you are setting to soon, or the bass are too small. Keep practicing!!! Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted August 26, 2013 Super User Posted August 26, 2013 What's your gear you're using for frog fishing? Quote
james_oxley Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 I am using a 7' heavy veritas. I was thinking it may be to stiff so I am going to a softer rod when I get some more money lol Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted August 26, 2013 Super User Posted August 26, 2013 No you should be fine there. How about line? Theres really no reason to bend hooks. Quote

Super User MarkH024 Posted August 26, 2013 Super User Posted August 26, 2013 Yea I'm going to agree with bassinlou. Just a bit of tweaking to your technique. Bending hooks is going to lead to more foul ups in weeds and pads. I use LiveTarget frogs straight out of the box with great success. Maybe try a different frog to see if you have a better hook up ratio. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted August 26, 2013 Super User Posted August 26, 2013 I bend out the hooks, just slightly, on all my frogs. It takes two pairs of pliers, one below the frog, and one just behind the barb. Try this and your hook-up ratio will go up. A lot. 1 Quote
