sbfishySC Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 So I've been looking around for a good trolling motor so I can upgrade my 45# to something bigger and I've come across a MK Powerdrive V2 65# with a 60" shaft with corded Co-pilot for a good price locally. My question is, can I decrease the 60" shaft by cutting it or some other way? Will this hurt it at all? A 60" shaft is too long for my boat as I need about a 42" shaft. Thanks. Quote
bgraham91 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I'm sure there is a way to do it but those shafts have a life time warranty and im sure if you try ti cut it, that will void the warranty. But as far as the trolling motor it took me two trips to get use to it but I like it a lot now. Quote
Brian Needham Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 if it is the same shaft as the terrova, there is a special blade needed to cut it. or so I was once told. I went from a 45 in shaft to a 60" (only made the 101 terrova in a 60in) and it not too bad, rarely gets in way of a cast. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted August 27, 2013 Super User Posted August 27, 2013 I just did this on the exact same trolling motor. I took 10" off mine. It's stupid simple and took all of 20 minutes from start to finish. Mine was non auto pilot so you'll have a few more wires. Here is what I did though... Pull the head. Disconnect 2 spade terminals. Mark 10" down the shaft. Insert a small pipe over the wires and push it down past your mark. Cut it off with a hacksaw. File it down. Cut wires shorter. Put 2 terminals on. Set head down on and mark the whole. Drill a pilot hole. Then drill through that with a 3/16 bit. Hook the wires up. Set head back on and align the holes. Put bolt through and tighten down. You're finished. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted August 27, 2013 Super User Posted August 27, 2013 I have a wireless 60" motor guide and about 1/2 the time I just reach down and turn it by hand instead of using the foot control Quote
