You've got to remember that I was born in 99' so most of my generation is still in high school. I've gotten to really like what's his face from Avenged Sevenfold, both of Mastodon' s guitarist, Daron Malakin from SOAD, I think Dimebag was awesome but as you know he's dead. Now Zakk Wylde is great and I love black label, but not my generation. As an overall band godsmack is great although they're nothing special when it comes to guitar, and the same goes for Johnny Cash.

Seen Godsmack. Got called out by Sully during the show. He wanted the rest of the crowd to get as hype as me and the guy that was next to me. We were going insane. Also got all access and got to chill with them backstage

Well I'll go a different direction than the rest and say Brad Paisley. I've been to a couple of his concerts and was even lucky enough to meet him while I was working at Cabela's in KC on day and he gave me front row tickets to the show and was just a generally nice guy, good fisherman too. They usually do a jam session each concert where the band just rocks out, that man can flat out play a guitar and makes it look easy while he's doing it. He can do more than just slow country songs too!

I have hung out at sullys house a couple times. He lives in the same town as me and a couple of my buddies are friends with him.

Who's your favorite guitarist of your generation?

For me, it's gotta be Slash. The man is known for everything. Probably one of the most noted solos of all time (remember my gen) is Sweet Child o Mine. Next to Ferby in that cute little number, his riff at the 2011 Half Time Show was worth every minute I had to sit through Ferby and her gang barking, squawking, screeching if that's called music.

Slash is the man, and for my generation is my favorite, though I prefer the solo('s) from November Rain the most.

Now out of my generation, Eric Johnson. Don't listen to much from him, but if you don't find Cliffs of Dover to be an awesome solo then your nuts!

I'll take a different approach to answering this one......

My favorite guitarist isn't based on generation, it's based on playing style and the listening mood I am in at any given moment.....

Soulful blues - John Mayall, Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Carlos Santana, Robert Cray, Eric Johnson, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shephard

Nasty blues - Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Bonamassa

Electric Blues - David Gilmour, Gary Moore, Warren Haynes and Jimi Hendrix

Blues Rock - Joe Perry, Ted Nugent, Chuck Berry, Paul McCartney, Billy Gibbons

Angus Young (sorry folks, he is a blues guitarist if you listen to the licks even with the distortion cranked up)

Blues Swing - Brian Setzer

Modern (90's and newer) - Tim Reynolds, Mike McCready

Hard Rock - Slash, Mark Tremonti, Jerry Cantrell, John 5, Kirk Hammett, Zakk Wylde, Dave Mustaine, Chris Broderick, Eddie Van Halen (love him or hate him, he can play)

80's Metal - Randy Rhodes, George Lynch, Michael Schenker, Phil Collen, John Sykes, Jake E Lee, Matthias Jabs

Instrumental Electric - Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Al DiMiola, Yngwie J Malmsteen

Progressive Rock - Alex Liefson, John Petrucci

As you can see, I have quite the eclectic taste but all of these center around one theme - BLUES!  Most music originated from times when life was challenging for one reason or another.  Listen to your favorite songs a little closer and you might be surprised to find how much blues chords and progressions are layered in there.  The 'blues box' is the considered by many guitarist around the world as the most fundamental lesson to learn.  Great topic.....

I think I will go crank up a CD or two from my collection here at work..... :)

My generation? Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Chet Atkins, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, Danny Gatton, Dick Dale. Stephen Stills, B. B. King, Buddy Guy,...

This could go on for a long, long time.

I'd love to see a godsmack show.

That would be AWESOME.

I'm surprised that there's so many guys that listen to rock on this site.
