Nice_Bass Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Anyone have some go to baits to fish these areas not a frog type bait. Top water or 6" or less level? Quote
Vinny Chase Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Persuader Double Buzzer...preferably black. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 5, 2010 Super User Posted August 5, 2010 Weightless Fluke or Trickworm or even a very light Mojo Rig. Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 5, 2010 Super User Posted August 5, 2010 Heddon Moss Boss, Johnson Gold Spoon, Rage Tail 7" or 10" Anaconda Texas Rigged with little or no weight. Quote
jdw174 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 The old Ozark Mountain Kingfisher is my choice for topwater in grass. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 5, 2010 Super User Posted August 5, 2010 For a bait producing sound: A Mann's Minus One or other wake bait and a buzzbait. For a bait not producing sound: Pink or white truck worm and what Catt suggests. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 5, 2010 Super User Posted August 5, 2010 Rage Tail Space Monkey http://www.ragetail.com/ragetailspacemonkey.html 8-) Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 5, 2010 Super User Posted August 5, 2010 7" Rage Tail Anaconda on a 1/8 oz keel-weighted 5/0 hook. Killer. Quote
SCangler91 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 White, Black, or Pink Trick worm always draws bites if there are fish Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted August 5, 2010 Super User Posted August 5, 2010 devils horse! Amen LOL Don't overlook a senko twitched across the top in a walk the dog manner, pop upwards with a lot of slack in the line while reeling.Use it just like the fluke or trickworm. Just about any of the Rage Tail baits work on top as well as a frog alternative too. Quote
brushhoggin Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 why not a frog type bait? :-? a ribbit would destroy in this scenario Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 5, 2010 Super User Posted August 5, 2010 Go with weedless baits!!!!!! Go slow over weeds. Mister Twister Top Prop in Tri Alive Fire Perch Use any presentation like reel/pause, slow reel or a long pause. I've seen this lure stand up straight in the water stopped when the bass kill it. Use a trailer hook that it comes with. Mepps Timber Doodle in silver blade white plastics( 4" split double tail grub) Let it sink into the weed pockets. Floating plastic worm "no weight" w/Worm Rattle? If the weeds are low under the waters surface(submerged weeds) try a spook or popper? You can also use a spinnerbait by keeping the rod tip up so the blade slaps the top of the water too. You can also use any shallow crankbait that floats too. I've used the bomber FAT A in red apple craw with awesome success over submerged weeds. Or a carolina rig weighted enough to crash thru the weeds to the bottom or a jig n pig? I see so many fisherman let the weeds stop them. When i ran into the weeds for the first time i went home and searched for weedless lures. I have a tacklebox of weedless lures thats the one i grab for weed fishing. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted August 5, 2010 Author Posted August 5, 2010 why not a frog type bait? :-? a ribbit would destroy in this scenario I will be fishing from the back of the boat, and i know the guy will do a bit of frog fishing in the morning- I want to follow up with somthing different since I usually fish frog from the front. If he starts catching, im changing. Typically I would throw either a spro, horny toad, or fluke. I may try a rage tail shad as i know I can throw that a mile. Never used the space monkey, may give it a shot. I could always scare the life out of the guy and throw a 3:16 no bull frog. Caught some monsters on private ponds, just have not had the guts to bring that beast in public! Quote
scbassin Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Gambler 13" green pumpkin worm rigged with a weighted hook. When retrieved it looks like a snake coming thru the water. A good bait for Bass & small gators. ;D Quote
Kowen117 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Fluke with heavy wire hook on braid. This is my go to bait. Also try the yum money hounds. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted August 6, 2010 Author Posted August 6, 2010 Fluke with heavy wire hook on braid. This is my go to bait. Also try the yum money hounds. Have used it sparingly, really did not like the hook up % on it. Like the action, great prefishing bait imo. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 6, 2010 Super User Posted August 6, 2010 I was going thru my weedless tacklebox lastnight and i forgot to mention; weedless spoons weedless spoons with props scum frogs moss boss I like weed fishing its more of a challange. I probably lost a new state record in the weeds using a BPS topnocker. I seen her turn and hit it on top then she went down into the thick weeds with my lure. This is the second time we lost this fish to the weeds. My buddy wouldn't let her have any slack and his rod broke and he lost her. This proves to me the big ones do hide in the weeds so make sure your rod is heavy enough, your size line is right lb wise, your drag is set right too and hang on!!!! Be ready. Quote
B-Dozer Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I also have had some nice ones on BPS Topknocker. Too bad they stopped selling them. If you know of another source, please pass it on, down to my last one. Quote
BassThumb Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Buzzer, toad, or t-rig fluke, Senko or floating worm. Quote
Randall Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Swimbait, swimjig and buzzbait are the three I usually have tied on. Quote
