The Young Gun Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 A.) Reel faster and keep above the weeds (love doing that and so far this late summer it's great for me) B.) I don't think you can make them more weedless than already are, the arm an blades will pick up lose weeds like any bait... Quote
AJMichigan Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 I guess the question would be how to make it so I can avoid snags...Got my best spinnerbait snagged today and lost it. Only thing I got a hit on this morning too.. Quote
martintheduck Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 What are you snagging in? Pads? Deep weeds? I've been hoping for awhile that someone would make a spinner AND jig with a hook similar to an offset worm hook.... give me the ability to rig a craw trailer on t-rig style. I've been fishing deep in the river for the past weeks and there is a TON of debris on the bottom. Lost 2 spinners and at least 5 deep cranks. Picked up a lure retriever the other day and it has already saved me $10. It's my new favorite tool. 1 Quote

AJMichigan Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 Hey guys, These are the new spinnerbaits I picked up today on clearance. Any tips for these in general? Tips to keep them from getting snagged? (the sucky part is the only retreive method that seems to work is bouncing it up and down on the bottom) Also, i know this may be stupid but how do I tie the ones on that don't have a full circle on them? Like the two in the top of the pic? Quote
martintheduck Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Just search for one on google. I bought one like this from the local tackle shop --- http://tacklehookup.com/products/tiptons-golden-rule-lure-retriever If you're a shore fisherman, it won't work. If you're fishing from a boat, you get directly over the lure, get the fishing line tight, hook this contraption onto the line while holding it's attached rope, drop it down the line and slack the fishing line. Should knock it free. if it doesn't on first try, just jiggle the retriever around via the rope a bit and it should come free. Honestly, I wasn't convinced one of these things would work, but they do. Granted, it's kind of a hassle and cumbersome, but it does work. ANYTHING that helps me save money fishing is a good thing. martintheduck Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I tie all spinners with a palomar knot. Will work fine on any of the ones pictured. Sadly, when fishing the bottom, snags are part of the game. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 When I slow roll near the bottom I hold my rod straight up if I know there are snags around. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 gotta feel out debris and slowly lift over it. yanking it will get it stuck. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 Remove trailer hook but retain the plastic trailer. 1 Quote
JayKumar Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Might try the rubber band trick, just not sure if that'll work on a spinnerbait. Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I T-rig a curly tailed grub onto the hook to help keep the weeds off the hook. A spot of super glue at the top of the grub and where the hook shaft exits it's head helps to keep it from sliding down the hook's shank. Quote
deputybc Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Go to fishing store and by a couple of War Eagle spinner baits and throw them in any brush you want. I will actually pitch my spinner baits in the tree's and brush and only get hung up every 50 pitches or so. Never got one hung up in deep water. Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 abort the spinnerbait and switch to a chatterbait in the weeds. the lure has an amazing vibration/action that literally vibrates weeds right off it. you can even let it drop into the weeds on purpose (kill it) and rip hard to pull it back up/out. if that bite is 'on' it gets violent strikes. and you can bounce it thru the weed tops and not pick up a thing, unlike swivels of spinner blades. the lure has literally changed how i fish weeds. and they bounce off the bottom/rocks/stumps much better. its basically the same 'style' lure as a spinner ie blade/vibration. i can't remember the last time i bought a spinnerbait bc chatter's have replaced them Quote
Chris Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I use either a strike king flip-n-spin or a zorro short arm both have weed guards. Quote
