bassboy13 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I'm looking to get a new real for a pitching and flipping set up.. I'm stuck between the daiwa aird, and the quantum code. Which reel do you guys think I should get? Quote
Super User MCS Posted August 21, 2013 Super User Posted August 21, 2013 I am partial to Quantum...Heard the code is a good reel for the money. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 21, 2013 Super User Posted August 21, 2013 Code is alright. I used one for a while. Quote
5dollarsplash Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I was really impressed with the code and I believe they are on sale on TW's website. Quote
bassboy13 Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 I'm setting up a new pitching and flipping rod and looking for a new real. Id like to get either the daiwa aird or the quantum code.. any thoughts on which ones or another affordable reel? Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 I would opt for a Lews Super Duty. Quote
dddyfz27 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I second the Lews. I have the Tourney Pro and I love it. It gives my Chronarch a serious run for its money. Quote

bassboy13 Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 I would opt for a Lews Super Duty. Thats a little out of my price range Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 I would opt for a Lews Super Duty. Now, this is starting to get REALLY SCARY!!!....lol. Hootie Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 Now, this is starting to get REALLY SCARY!!!....lol. Hootie What? I like how it pitches baits with the mag brakes. I mean, I could pitch with my Chronarch, but we all know mag brakes are better. I would just take a Lews over any other brand out there with mag only option. I only got 1 Lews and that's it. I swear. 1 Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 Go for a BPS Pro Qualifier if that is your budget. It pitches just fine. That is what I have on my flip/pitch stick. You can regularly get it on sale for 79.99. IMO this reel is better quality than those two. If you can't wait until it goes on sale in probably by Labor day, try out the new Bionic Plus Baitcaster reel. I heard the upgrade they did from a member here, that it is just below a PQ. Quote

So now you are taking swings at my Daiwas? Careful or I will it off. Or you. Just pokey fun, LMG. Different strokes for different folks. Personally I prefer the nice solid metal clunks of my Daiwas to the plastic sound of my TP upon engaging and disengaging the spool. Not saying the Lews isn't a nice reel, tho. Just like my Daiwas better. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 Could some reels be suited better than others for different uses? Why waste a better reel on flipping and pitch in when it could cast spinnerbaits and crank lures better? My point is could there be a place for a magnetic brake reel as well as the adjustable brake shoe reel too? Would one be better than the other in different situations? Sorry for the dumb questions. Super User J Francho Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 I merged the two topics. For pitching and flipping to heavy cover, you want a reel with a metal frame and a strong drag. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 That answers my questions. I'm still learning about baitcasters. I been upgrading my spinning reels to metal frames already. Quote

I figured to try and stay in somewhat of a budget. We all cant be big ballers like you new2BC4bass, lol. But sure, if you can swing the $$$, then a baller Daiwa is the way to go! I hear ya on the metal clunks vs the plastic sound. It is one thing that I don't like about the Lews. But so far its been good. Time will tell. Quote

Not always necessary to spend big bucks to get a good Daiwa. I paid $30 on closeout for my Procaster 100HN. MSRP was $69.95. This reel has an aluminum frame, tough finish, good drag and decent ergonomics. Weighs a ton by today's standards....9.0 oz., but I don't consider myself a wimp. Mine is mounted on a $17 Berkley Lightning 6' MH rod. The reel has Daiwa's solid feel and the desired metal clunk on clutch engaging and disengaging. Check out the tackletour review in their archives. Lately I have seen Fuegos in decent to very good shape for $90-$100. These were $229.95 new and are great reels. One of my Sol's was $125 and so was one of my Fuegos. This is a good price on reels that perform extremely well. I'd rather pay $125 for a Fuego than a Lews TP. That is just my personal preference. Super User bigbill Posted August 22, 2013 Super User Posted August 22, 2013 Shop around for the best prices. Everyone seems to have sales right now. I would checkout the local Wal-Mart, bps, and www.fishandsave.com they have low prices too with very fast shipping. Bill Quote
pbizzle Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 After getting a good mettle I have to recommend it. I haven't heard anything bad about it, but I have heard bad things about the arid and code durability wise. Quote
