Alright so I'm looking to get a reel for my spinner-bait rod. I'm assuming most everyone will say the Lew's but I just want to hear everyone's opinions. The Catalyst is $120 and the Tournament is $130. They will be in the "burner" ratios (7.0:1.). Yep, so all I'm asking is which one would you choose. Also there is a Revo S for about the same price but I'm not too interested. So yeah give me your opinions on why you would get one over the other and so forth. Also the reel will be going on a *** Black 7'1" mh.

Thanks!

Also anyone can give me opinions on slightly cheaper reels, like the Accurist PT (I have older greenish model), Orra SX, Speedspool...no Shimanos, I can't stand the company..sorry lol

If you want to stay in the $100 price range, the BPS Pro Qualifier is a solid reel.  Or, the Lew's Speed Spool can be had for $90 from Tackle Trap.  There's also the new Daiwa Exceler EXE, though it's only been out a couple months and doesn't have much feedback yet.  From the specs it looks basically like a Lexa 100 with a graphite handle-side plate, one less bearing and only one "corrosion-resistant ball bearing" instead of four, and a plastic drag star instead of metal.

There's also the $90 H2O Xpress Menace.  I like everything about mine except for the stock drag, which is really lousy.  It starts out smooth but rapidly becomes very sticky.  It costs approximately $10 to upgrade the drag washers to carbontex, and it's well worth the cost should you choose to go that route.  The Mettle is even cheaper, but the Menace is silky smooth where the Mettle is geary.  I can tell you that the Exceler EXE and Lexa 100 are built on the same platform as the H2O Xpress reels (Daiwa builds the reels for Academy), and it's a very simple, very rugged clutch design.  The biggest differences between the reels are the braking and the fact that the Daiwa reels come in more retrieve options.

The Orra SX is similarly spec'd to the Pro Qualifier, and between the two I'd be inclined to give the BPS reel the nod for the dual braking.  Especially in your case; spinnerbaits are wind-resistant and can be tricky to handle in breezy conditions.  The dual braking allows you to set the centrifugal brakes on two or three for normal fishing and then add magnetic braking when you need more power, without having to open up the reel to get at the brake tabs.  Otherwise the two reels are fairly evenly matched.  The new Orra series hasn't been released yet, so that's not an option.

If you take a look you can pick up a quantum energy out there for 128....TW....I got one from Cabela's for 99 but they are closed out. As far as cheaper, I hear good things about the quantum code, also the kinetic, buddy has one. I also like the catalyst very much and was on my list before I snagged the energy. I have also seen some deals on Pflueger casting reels, since they have some new models coming out. The new supreme starts at 99.

Alot of reputable ebay sellers are blowing out the 2012 Quantum Energy reels for $99 free shipping. If I was buying a $100 new reel today, thatd be it.

The new Catalyst and Accurist are pretty decent, but so is the Lews Tournament MG. If it were me, I'd go with the Catalyst for a couple of reasons, the first is the Lews Tournament MG is heavier than the Catalyst and only has the magnetic braking while the Catalyst has both the ACS along with a magnetic brake. I don't mind Quantum reels, I have an old model Catalyst that is a fantastic reel and my 2 Smoke reels have been nothing but pure performance for the last 2.5 years. I also have the first Kinetic casting reel that they came out with and it too is still working like the day it was purchases and it was used hard, I used to get reels in the $120 to $150 range to use as workhorse reels for Tournament practice days and use my good reels for the tournament and I found workhorse reels that are good and others not so good, for me the Quantum reels in that range are nice because they have good bearings and aluminum frames which usually mean that if I take the time to clean and lube, they should last a long time and so far it seems to be working.

Yea I have looked at them, but they are all out of the ratio i want. So I was looking on Ebay, does anyone know if it is safe to buy a brandnew one on there, just in case it breaks and what not?

That sucks, Cabelas had the 7.0:1 but like I said they look like they are out.

I bought a reel off ebay before, their rules are very buyer friendly if you do have a problem. Like the reel has clearly been used.
