Is the $70 difference in price worth it? I am looking for a do it all reel. Plastics mainly but also spinner baits and lipless cranks. Would like input before the trigger is pulled. Don't throw anything over 3/4 oz.

The only thing I can say is I think the ci4 should be compared to the 50e. I've heard those sizes are very similar.

For one, this question cannot be answered with accuracy. Many have not had the time to test the Ci4+ and put it through abuse and use that it takes to accurately compare a reel. So many of these questions are purely speculative. I know of a few that are testers for the Ci4+ and great things have been said. Still, I would wait for more reviews for an accurate response.

Zach, I believe the Ci4+ is more of a 100 sized Shimano and not a 50 size. Please correct me if I am wrong?

Technically it's a 150 but someone on here says it palms almost like a 50

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying that. Nonetheless, I would wait for more reviews on the Ci4+. The 200e7's are time-tested reels. All the information I have at the moment points to the Ci4+ being a very nice reel, but without enough members being able to provide feedback i would proceed with caution. Even with Shimanos excellent QC.

I have also heard great things about shimanos x ship which I believe the ci4 has.

Stick to the E, it has an aluminum frame. The Ci4 has a "plastic" frame, and will not hold up to what a 200E can. If you are going to be doing some light line finesse fishing, then by all means if you want to spend the $$. I have heard and seen too many issues due to the construction, and for another $70, nah.

probably nothing. the frame isn't plastic.it's the material used on the original ci4 but supposedly much stronger. there's very few on the water tests/reviews for anybody to draw any sort of conclusion about such a new reel. wait a few months for more to come out.

I'm an avid golfer, and fishing nuts and golfing nuts alike, we seem to speculate things.

in the golf world, it took a good while for graphite shafts to become trusted and an industry standard, that being said Tiger Woods, and I, play X100 steel shafts in our irons, an extra stiff low flex shaft for fast swings, but I'm 16 and have the perfect build for a hard fast swing, that being said; Tiger and I both play graphite in our drivers and fairway woods for the weight reduction, and added distance. But some older gentlemen and a few professionals have made a switch to all graphite shafts, because they save weight and are easier on the joints.

How does this relate to fishing? One might ask.

And my reply to that would be.

Weight is everything, in every sport, and fishing seems to be on the verge of going lighter, Bass fishing that is. I'm not saying I trust the composite or graphite frame as much as aluminum, because I will not buy the Ci4, I'm getting another aluminum frame Shimano, but once they work out all the kinks a composite frame might be the industry standard. If it proves to be as strong as aluminum, and lighter, why not trust it?

And to say a composite isn't strong enough is unfair, I swing a driver at a clubhead speed of 118 miles an hour, and Tiger Woods swings at 125+ so graphite isn't the weak flimsy material you would think if a 60-70 gram shaft can hold up to that force.

Not really sure why I posted that because I question the reel itself, but there it is, my speculation.

Though I am not allowed to show anything or elaborate too much on this reel, I will say that I bought a Lews Super Duty instead, so what does that tell you?

Wait, are we fishing for Groupers here or largemouths? I think some of you guys are over thinking this too much. Show me a reel that broke or cracked from a largemouth. Heck I even caught a 49" Muski on my T3B that's made out of Zion and at no point did I feel the material flex or felt like its about to come apart. It took me 12 minutes to pull her in because my setup wasnt geared for Ski's. The feel of Zion is different though. I have 2 CH201 and one CH51. They are sweet reels, but they are not that good to where I wouldn't want to try the CI4+. To the OP I would suggest to just get the CI4+ so you got the latest. You can easily sell it in the used market, that I am sure.

I own a CI4+ and have been fishing it for a total of 1 week.  It's an awesome reel and very light, I have fished my Chronarch 50E side by side with it.  (GLX 853C paired with CI4+ now, I find the balance is better than on my MH 7'1" Cumulus and my GLX 854C is paired the Chronarch 50E).  Even though the CI4+ is a size 150, it seems as palmable as the 50E.  I also find the build of the CI4 to feel solid.  As for the performance, jury is still out for me vs the Chronarch 50E.   I will  give an edge to the CI4+ in casting, it is so easy and effortless over the E. Other than that, I do not see big difference in performance (casting and retrieving), although to be fair I haven't broken down the CI4+ yet and did a cleaning. (Been feeling lazy the last couple weeks)  I definitely will have to do that.  I haven't tested how well it performs with a fish on either, as the fishing has been tough the last couple times I've been out.  (But the Perch and Sunfish bite is on for my crankbait and 5" senkos)  So don't know how it feels with a bass on.

But imo - I believe it is worth it...especially if you like to fish a size 50 reel and want a little more line capacity and  the quality in the reel, you can just feel it.

LMG I'm not understanding what "you've seen", but this reel doesn't feel cheap.  I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion.  :)

It comes down to wanting something more out of the chronarch e and paying for it. With the ci4 you get a little bit more spool capacity, a higher gear option, the strength of the xship, and for looks a much cooler paint job. Only the buyer can decide if that's worth the $70 bump

I would say the issue comes down to a Chronarch E which actually has a history of use going back to the Curado E.  There is therefore a much longer history for people to go by.  Obviously, people love the Curado E and as such would love the Chronarch E.  However, the Chronarch is just that, an old Curado.

This Chronarch may bring the high level of enthusiasm back to the Chronarch line ALA the D series which is a phenomenal reel.  I applaud Shimano for trying to up the ante on the Chronarch line again AND find a middle ground between the Core and Chronarch E.  It seems to me that the literally took the middle ground by offering a 150 size, higher gear ratio and an X-ship which supposedly helps with smoothness.  Now my stradic FJ is smooth as butter so if a hint of that new power moves into the chronarchs it will be a welcome addition.

I think we just need to sit back and wait and see.  Let people buy them and let the reviews come before jumping to conclusions regarding feel, smoothness and longevity.
