Brent Bartman Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I've been using havoc smash tubes and getting hits but on hook sets I'm not sinking the hook. i drive my hook sets enough to move my boat. I've been told I need to skin hook the tube for better hook ups. I guess I don't know what skin hook means exactly but I basically bring the hook all the way into the tube and push it out the other side barely sticking thru is that not right?? I'm using a 5/0 offset owner hook with a pegged worm weight. Any advice Quote
RyneB Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 are you giving the fish enough time to take the tube? I suggest 3 things, let them take it more, rub the tube with Megastrike, and try a Trokar tube hook. Quote
Brent Bartman Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 I'm using megastike. And most the time it seems like they have swam off with it or they fight for about a second and I get back a tube with barely any hook sticking out. I will try the Trokars I use there drops shot hooks and love em Quote
Super User Teal Posted August 19, 2013 Super User Posted August 19, 2013 When you thread the soft plastic on, you should bring the hook all the way through the lure, and then use the point of the hook to go under a very thing section of the plastic so that you can use your finger to push down on the bait and the hook will come through. That is skin hooking. Ive used the smash tubes and i have zero problems. I do have other tubes that i like better tho. 1 Quote

Do this when fishing other plastics, too. Quote
MO_LMB Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I always use the tube jigs with the weed guards. You get a better hookup and action on the fall. Quote
Amarley Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 The trokar tube hooks are expensive, but well worth it if you fish tubes often. I'll peg a weight and pitch them like that. Quote
