Super User Chris at Tech Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 Well, profits from the athletic dept funded a couple of academic centers for South Carolina. Our previous AD (now texas a&m's) developed a long term, master plan a few years back that once fulfilled, will improve all facets of the university tremendously. The funding for the master plan? Centered around athletic revenue. Can you be more specific? I'm actually really curious... And also really skeptical. Until schools start using these tens of millions of dollars to start reducing tuitions, I still think the money is misused. Are students better served by reducing tuition or putting up another new building that's not really needed? Quote

Fish_Whisperer Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I should say that our President Harry Pastides started the plan with insight from our former AD Eric Hyman. Quote
SDoolittle Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I don't disagree with your comment (other than calling mine nonsense). I'll just say that my Vols have Bama, Oregon, SC, UF, and GA in the next 7 weeks. That's pretty dang tough. West Virginia has a VERY tough schedule too. But the Vols play 5 teams that are ranked higher than anyone on the Mountaineers schedule. That's what many SEC teams face every year. Is going 7-5 with 5 losses coming against top 11 teams different than 7-5 against a lesser schedule? I'm not overly emotional about any of this...I also like non-SEC schools with very respectable coaches, teams with a lot of heart/character (e.g. Penn State last year), overachievers (Boise St.), etc. Perhaps "nonsense" was a bit harsh, but honestly, the old "we lose to better teams than you do" argument makes me laugh. Strength of schedule only matters if you're winning, and not every SEC team has a super tough schedule. Look at Alabama this season. They have a whopping two ranked teams on their schedule. Two. Remember when Auburn got left out of the National Championship game after the 2004 season? That was due to their weak strength of schedule, but everyone was crying foul because they were the SEC champs, so they deserved an automatic berth in the National Championship game. By the way, I'm not a WVU fan. I'm stationed in WV, but I'm not a native. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted September 5, 2013 TCU was the 18th ranked opponent LSU faced in the Tigers last 30 games, the most by any team in the nation! The Tigers are 14-4 in those games! TCU was the 7th ranked opponent in LSU's last 9 games! Care to guess how many were SEC opponentis? TCU was the Tigers 42nd consecutive nonconference regular season win most in the nation & Miles is 32-0 in regular season nonconference wins. The Tigers last nonconfetence regular season loss was in 2002! I'm proud of my d**n strong team...good day Quote
aquaholic Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Notre Dame is a prime example of tring to live on their history. Every sports network in the nation could not stop talking about how ND was going to teach the SEC how to play smash mouth football. We all saw how playing a weak schedule and history got them. Princeston hands down has more national championships than anyone ever but where they now? Do you watch college football? I ask because nobody, asides from lou holtz thought notre dame had a chance at winning the ncg. Notre Dames schedule was ranked 8th by the ncaa for toughest schedules last year. Let me repeat by the NCAA. Alabama wasnt even in the top 10. in fact the ncaa ranked their schedule 33rd in the country. Going 12-0 is not living in the history. If you want a prime example of living in the history just take a stroll through this thread, all ive heard about is past championships of the sec. Notre Dame didnt go down to play the sec, they went down to play alabama. The sec didnt beat notre dame, alabama did. If the whole sec beat nd then we could easily say the whole big east beat the sec because Louisville beat Florida. 1 Quote

Super User Catt Posted September 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted September 5, 2013 That's all y'all got? Once in awhile y'all beat an SEC team & y'all talk smack! Name a team who beats SEC consistantly? Y'all got nothing! Match LSU's nonconference wins! Come play Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina every year, y'all would have 3-4 losses every year. The BCS Championship proves it, your best against our best and y'all aint even came close! 1 Quote
Fish_Whisperer Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Ask top level recruits who they wanna play for, and the majority will tell you SEC. Then ask them why. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted September 5, 2013 Ask the NFL who they want to draft from? SEC: 63 players which doubles the second place conference! Quote

Clemson. Outside of South Carolina just the past couple years, Clemson has beaten Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, and UGA in the past few years, go back outside of the past 4 years Clemson dominates SC too. 1 Quote

And its pretty easy to match lsus non conference wins. which is 1. They lost in their bowl game to clemson a non conference team. Or did you think that because alabama won, all sec teams won? Quote
GaBankFisher Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Thank you! yeah, but bama is in the best conference...the SEC. Quote
GaBankFisher Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Or did you think that because alabama won, all sec teams won? I don't think I've ever heard an SEC fan make that claim. I'm a Vols fan, but I know they didn't win the BCS last year. They hardly won at all. But, maybe some fans who root for their conference are proud when an SEC team wins, which is almost every year lately. Quote

Clearly you've never heard a South Carolina fan....Not only do they seem to claim a NC because an SEC team wins it, they also get rings made for coming in 5th place in the SEC! Quote
GaBankFisher Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Nobody, SEC or otherwise, plays all of those teams every year. Tennessee Vols: 2010: oregon, uf, lsu, uga, bama, sc 2011: bama, uf, uga, lsu, arkansas, sc 2012: bama, uf, sc, miss st, uga 2013: bama, oregon, sc, uga, uf Just sayin...some do. It's been a rough couple years as a Vols fan. Quote

I grew up in Columbia, been to many games in that stadium and not just clemson-carolina games. I disagree 110%. City is awful and the stadium is even worse. And I'm honestly not saying that just cause I'm a Clemson fan, as a college football fan in general, that's an awful stadium, awful location. Quote

Well, now I was just there for 2 nights and not for a game...I probably got a different experience. We had some really good food though at a couple nice restaurants. Our trip to/from the stadium was via cab so we didn't have to drive. We were down on the field for the concert. Quote

Touche on the city but... Awful stadium you say? Bad Surroundings? I present you all with this...Williams Brice Stadium and Gamecock Park. Before the new video board... Our new video board... Gotta love that SEC money... Quote
