Loop_Dad Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I appreciate the concept. I was wondering if it delivers, i.e.hook up ratio. Anybody used them? Quote
BassAddict1911 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Never tried em, but they had a sale at wally-world couple weeks ago where the money hounds were like a dollar for a whole pack... Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted August 18, 2013 Super User Posted August 18, 2013 This guy does. Essentially a walk the dog or zara spook type of bait without the rattles. They cast incredibly far. I have only used the smaller size. The hook up ratio is going to be similar to hollow body frogs. The biggest plus is that you can throw them in areas where weeds grow to the top and cast them incredibly far as I stated before. Aside from that it gives fish a slightly different look than say a spro frog. A few years back I had some great days using them especially for size of fish. Quote
Amarley Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I've gotten some blow ups with them, but have had trouble with hook-ups. If you're fishing super thick lily pads or other grass, they are definitely worth a try. Completely weedless. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 20, 2013 Super User Posted August 20, 2013 I have used them and will echo the hook up percentage isn't great but 40% is better than 0% because you can't really throw to many things where these will go. They do cast a mile and are completely weedless and surprisingly easy to walk the dog with. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted August 20, 2013 Super User Posted August 20, 2013 I've only used them on a couple of occasions but I really like them. They are as weedless as any bait out there, they walk the dog really well and I didn't find the hook ups to be any worse than a toad style bait or a regular frog. I will definitely use them again. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 20, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 20, 2013 A really wide gap hook is a must for them. I like them and fish them on the same gear I fish my frogs on. 1 Quote
Amarley Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 A really wide gap hook is a must for them. I like them and fish them on the same gear I fish my frogs on. That's a good point. I use a big 6/0 heavy duty wide gap hook with them. Anything smaller there is too much plastic for the hook to get through, which was part of my hookset problem to begin with! Quote
MichBassMan Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I also found the hook-up rate comparable to a hollow body frog. Up here in the northern parts the pike eat um like candy, especially when your bass fishing. They will cast a mile, however casting farther than a reasonable hook-set and retrieval is seldom good. Super User flyfisher Posted August 20, 2013 Super User Posted August 20, 2013 I fish mine on braid so the long range hooksets are a little more productive. Quote
