Clackinrap Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 While being on the boat is always a good time, shore fishing is still extremely enjoyable. Looking for some opinions on new spots in the Rochester area. Since I know people don't like sharing, I'll share some of mine first, and save my favorite for a PM if someone wants to PM me theirs! Buck Pond in Charlotte NY is my daily spot, close to home, and always full of largemouth and some carp too for an unexpected change of pace. Fishing off the bridge into the channel is the spot to be. Down the road from Buck Pond (going west) is a small park which has parking for about 10 vehicles and is also good for shore fishing. Another channel which feeds into Cranberry Pond (I think). There's a bridge (that you can't fish from) that you stand next to and cast under and around on the eastern side of the park. Continuing west on this road will lead you to Long Pond which has a bunch of areas to park on the side of the road where you can hop the guard rail and fish into wide open waters with tons of underwater grass. Your turn! Quote
Super User Marty Posted August 17, 2013 Super User Posted August 17, 2013 Do you ever fish Salmon Creek? I'm referring to north Manitou Rd. where the creek goes under the road. Unfortunately, parking was a problem, but I haven't been there in a few years. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted August 19, 2013 Super User Posted August 19, 2013 Summerville Pier and I-Bay outlet would be two easy spots that come to mind. Kings should accessible from Summerville very soon, so make sure you have a long handled net, and some heavy gear. There are smallies out there as well. Dawn and dusk are the best times. Quote

I've meant to give the Summerville Pier a try as I always see people out on it when we launch from the river. Quote

ROCbass Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 If you're willing to go for a little drive, DeWitt Recreation area in Batavia is pretty good. To get there take 33 west into Batavia and turn left on 5 (main street) and then right onto Cedar street. the park will be on your left. The lake is an old gravel quarry. there's a boat launch and a fishing pier close to the park entrance, and hiking trails around the perimeter of the lake. I caught my PB largemouth there fishing from the bank in a little bay on the backside of the lake. Quote

ROCbass Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I'm gonna take a drive there Sunday, any other suggestions or tips for the location? Weedy? There's a couple weeedy spots, but as a whole its not what I would consider a weedy lake. Being an old quarry pit, its pretty deep for a lake of its size, and it drops off pretty quickly, so be prepared to fish deep. I like jigs and tubes there. If you can find any wood cover, fish it. When I caught my PB i was working a jig through a tree. I haven't been there in a while so I'm not sure if the same tree is still there. If you want to get an idea of what the lake looks like, look up batavia on google maps satellite view. You'll see three ponds in the southeast corner. The one with the island is the one in the park, the other two are on private property and inaccessible. the water there is pretty clear, which is cool because you can see some points and contours and stuff like that just from looking at the picture on google maps. It's also a fun lake to fish from a canoe or other small boat. the only boats allowed are paddlecraft and electric motors if you ever get a chance to do that. Good Luck! Quote

Just wanted to let you know that I checked this spot out over the weekend. Sadly didn't get out till later in the day so not much luck in catching bigger fish since there are SO MANY baitfish in the water there. It is absolutely beautiful though, even went to one of the other ponds at the suggestion of a local. Pulled out a ton of sunfish on my plastics. Gonna give it another try this weekend at day break, hoping for a lunker. Thanks for the tip! Quote
