So I got my new KLX today. At first I was very imprressed with the rod. After checking out the guides carfully I noticed somthing on the rod I hadn't seen on my other rods before. The blank had what looked like streaks, scrathes, or lines in the rod or its blank. I compared it to other rods and none of them, even cheap old ones, had any of these marks. Here are some pictures,

The marks are in the very middle of the blank as it is pictured. I was hoping someone could tell me what these marks are and if they do anything to effect the rods performance. If they dont weaken the rod then its not that big of a deal to me. Just curious to know if someone knew what they were. Who knows, I could be seeing things.

Tell me what you think,

Jack

If I were you I'd contact the manufacturer and ask them if that is normal.  That would be the best course if you are worried.  I'm not familiar with KLX rods and it could be just how the blanks are manufactured, but I'd call to be sure.

Some blanks are unsanded and rough in order to make the blank stronger. That's what those rings are. However the scratches appear to me to be just that, scratches. As was suggested, contact kistler with pictures

Contact the mfgr. for peace of mind but from what I can see that's just streaks in the resin. Scratches would be straighter and you could feel them. The lack of finish keeps a rod lighter and crisper, nothing to worry about on that front.

DVT I was hoping you had an idea. Hope thats all it is. I had been reading it might be imperfections in the graphite. Any guys with a KLX have similar spots on your rods?

When a blank is made, they roll material up around a mandrel, apply resin and bake. (that's oversimplified but you get the point)  Hard to tell since your pic is a little blurry but it could be a run in the material or an overlap.  How far does it extend?  And can you feel it?

It's probable that you'd never notice or have an issue... but on the off chance it does ever break, that would likely be the spot.  Worth an email to with a clearer pic to the mfr to be safe.

Could have been a duel finish resin coat and the mark you see is from something touching the finish before the final coat.

But as always when in doubt contact the builder... :Victory:
